There’s just naturally something about an officer that make:; a fellow pick up his feet and move. A defendant in court this week, having been caught with a liquor party, claimed that he was not guilty although he ran when an officer appeared on the scene. <■ * * Among the several visitors at the local term of court during Ihe opening day this week was Sena tor Tom Fulton, of Kings Moun tain. Mr. Fukon isn't a lawyer— in fact, he’s an undertaker— but when a follow gets in office it al ways behooves him to be around among the folks on opening court 1 days. * * * Charles Jonas, Lincolnton at torney and one of the Republican leaders at the recent session of j legislature, was another court at tendant Tuesday. * * * { Just to make the court room jseem natural George P. Mr. and Mrs. George Jones arid Mrs. Green Williams of Newton, were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Ramsey, Sunday. Mrs. Ellis Cook is spending some time with her mother Mrs. McDate at Hudson. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wells of Cherryvi lie were visitors at the home of their daughter Mrs. Lee Devenny on Monday. Mrs. M. A. Baber and daughter. Miss Dollie, were visitors in Forest City, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Canipe and son, Arthur and Mr. J. T. Ramsey and son. J. T. jr., spent Sunday in Spartanburg, S. C. They were ac companied by Mrs. Canipe’s mother who will spend some time here. Misses Gladys Wilkie and Mae Short entertained a number of their friends at Miss Short’s home Tues day. Those present report an en joyable time. Rev and Mrs. L. S. Helms of Car oleen were the guests of Mrs. J. T. Ramsey, Sunday. Mrs. John Sellers who was op erated on at the Shelby hospital last Thursday is getting along nice ly and expects to be home in a few days. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Jones, a dainty daughter, Marjorie Virginia. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Simp son Sunday, March 27, an 11-pound son. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Shytle an nounce the birth of n little daugh ter on March 24th Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Silver of Clegg street announce the birth of a son on March 20. Mr. Austin Hun% who made his home with his sister Mrs. W.l G. Whitworth on S. Morgan street died March 21st. Mr. Hunt was a pa tient sufferer for more than four years. He was buried at the Head of the River church in Rutherford county. The many beautiful floral offerings expressed the love of his many friends. Loses 108 Hour Fight Chicago.—After being kept alive for 108 hours by artificial respira tion produced by the hands of friends pressing on his diaphram, Albert Frick died. He remained conscious to the last and j'oked with and urged his friends on in the efforts to restore natural breathing. Paralysis was the cause of his death. Wax flowers are popular for the time. Personal Items Of People. (Special to The Star.) New House, Mar. 28.—Last Thurs day it seemed as if Miss Winter was going to pay us a visit, but decided it was March and returned home. Farmers are making use of their teams and spring weather the«e days. Sunday was Mission day all over the South, a special program was rendered Sunday morning. Those taking part in the program were ns follows: Mrs. Jesse Jones read n paper on “Do You Know.” ■ Miss Stella Walker read a paper on “Missions.” Mr. Griffin Davis made an excellent talk on “Mis sions”. Miss Donnie Gold also read a paper. Messrs Zeb Whitner and Broadus Petty made splendid talks. Song “The Kings Business”. Col lection for mission was then taken and a very large amount was obtained. Miss Donms Gold spent Sunday with Miss Vernio Walker. Miss Evelyn Daves spent Sunday with Miss Corinn eGrigg. Miss Belle Walker of Lattimore -rent the latter part of last week with Miss Vernie Daves. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Doty spent Sunday in Spindale. Mr. aijd Mrs. Clifton Davis vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Claud Waters Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. B. Daves and Miss Vernie Daves, Mr. J. C. Miss Madelene Daves who teaches in South Carolina spent last week end with her parents Mr. and Mis Tv'tty Daves. Mrs. Jane Hughes who is still at the hospital is expected to conic home Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Butler visited in the community one night last week. Several from this community at tended the fiddlers convention at Hollis Saturday night.
