Instruc tion in class rooms must not be neglected. School mu * o'*! i" a practical state of dismissal for for a whole month while prepar ing for a few nighty* of show. The school term is short enough at last, and achievement tests have liiown conclusive'v that oar child ren arc retarded to a degree suffi cient to cause those in charge of the school to attempt to remedy some of the deficiencies in schol arship. We also regret having to charge admissions so many nights at the door. We are sure that the public would come willingly and pay the small fee if it understood the nerioum css of school finance prob lems in many of our schools. I' we depend on tax money alone, there will not be the school in our community that we want. Proper ty values arc falling off every year and ouch listing shows a loss in our local tax funds. Our school plant was built two years ago with property values rating at higher figures. We built and ex pected to operate on that basis. With a lower assessed valuation each year we are Vrr.eivod to oper ate with increasing costs. The sooner Fallston sees th<> hand writing on the wall the better if will be for the community. Next Week By The Press Agent Following a period in which the city’s; theatrical aspect is marked by a depressing unattraeiveness, the announcement that the Tolbert show will open a week’s engage ment in this city Monday with ihe Big Tent theatre located near the Victor hotel is the most welcome news of the season—welcome if only because the monotony of a thea trical fare consisting solely of mov ing pictures anu vaudeville is to be broken—but welcome also for a greater reason. The stage has ro tained its foremost position in the esteem of the public, despite the claims for the popularity made by many novelties. A brand new play with beautiful scenic productions, is offered each night. Also “The Serenaders,” the South’s most ceelbrated band, will play before the big tent theatre et 7 and between the acts of the stage play, As a de luxe feature, a con cert following the evening’s per formance is offered each night with a gay and glittering cast of fun makers, singers and dancers.
