C “GIN MARRIAGE” LAW' SLOWS UP WEDDINGS FOR CALIFORNIANS (By International News Service) San Francisco. — Just when they had reconciled themselves to a three-day wait in receiving their marriage licenses, prospective brides and grooms in California leurned that they really had to wait four days. The ‘‘gin marriage'’ law, drawn up to prevent giddy-headed revel ers from marrying one day and an Hiding their marriage the next, provided that "‘three days" mu#! pass between nit application for n marriage lieense and the issuance of the license itself. This delay, the legislators believed, would enforce cool and calm deliberation. Now, however, under an inter pretation of Attorney General U. S. Webb the three-day period doesn’t -begin till midnight of the day of the application, and ends at midnight of the third day. Since few applications for Ijcense .or mariages can be performed at that hour of the day the inter pretation really places a four-day moratorium in effect. ROBINS PAY DOLLARS FOR FAILING TO HIT (By International News Service! New Yortef—Wilbert Robinson, manager of the Brooklyn Robins has evolved a novel scheme to strengthen his team’s batting. Each nlayer who does’ not make a hit during a game is compelled to do nate one dollar to a special fund, and the end of the season the club’s leading hitters will take the “pot.” Tho Robins, like all hall plov ers, love their base hits dearly, but cherish their dollars even more highly. Hence they have had a double incentive to deliver at least one safe blow a game since the new ruling. The financial strain on the “Run 'pss Robins” or Dolcss Dodgers” is terrific, however, for they are the weakest hitters in the majors. If *he Dodgers continue to bat at their present low speed, the club’s leading hitters should col lect about $150 at the end of the season.
