Mr. Cantrell Accept* Position With Mecklenburg Mills As Overseer (Special To The Star.) The community regrets very much to lose Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Onntrell, who are moving to Char lotte this week. Mr. Cantreli hns accepted a position with the Merk Jcnburg mill ns overseer of the weaving department. He has been overseer of Weaving here for the past .two years. Y.—With Governe, Al Smith's anproval. an effort will he made nt the 1027 session of the State legislature to nrtss a hill levy ing a tax on gasoline, probably two cents a gallon. Advocntes of the proposal point to the fact that. New York and Massachusetts nre the only states which do not levy a gas tax. Representatives of automobile clubs nre fighting the proposed tar. Officials of the clubs have said however. thev would not op pose such a tax If the state offi cials would agree to reduce the au tomobile license fees. A two cent tax would net the state about 313.nn0.ft()0 n vear. Governor Smith urged the last session of the legislature ro past a gns tax measure but the RenubM ean lenders refused.
