Waco Community ■ And School News School Attendance Is Good—B. Y. P. t\ Entertained a Lawn Party At Miss Hord’s ' (Special to The Star < Waco. Sept. 8—The Waco school has been running three weeks with full attendance. The enrollment to date is almost as large as it was during the whole of last year. The attendance is keeping up well. Rooms In the elementary grades at e crowded to full capacity. Waco people are realizing, more than ever before, the need of more room. On Friday evening the local B. Y P, U. was entertained with a lawn party at the home of Miss Jennie Hord. The social committee, with Mi-ss Allie Houser as chairman, made the evening a delightful one lor all the members. As rewards for the grade of work done by the three groups, each group had dif ferent refreshments at the end of the evening. Since group one had made the highest score, the mem bers of that group were served Ice cream and cake. Those of group three had cheese and crackers. The members of group two ate peanut butter sandwiches without any water. The groups who ate cheese sandwiches and peanut butter sandwiches did it in such an hum ble spirit until the social commit tee took pity on them and finally served ice cream to them. Miss Velma Craft gave a party at her home last Saturday evening. About seventy-live guests were present. They were delightfully en tertained all the evening. Refresh ments were served. Mr. and Mrs.l J. A. Moore and family spent last week end with relatives in Burke. Miss Velma Craft and Margaret WhttwArth left Monday for Ashe ville, where they will attend the Asheville Normal this year. Miss Blanche Briggs spent the week-end with her parents in Bes semer City. Miss Blala Blanton spent last week-end at her home near Shelby. Misses Bernice and Ruth Stone visited their sister. Mrs. A. J. Put nam, for a few days this week as they were on their way to Mars HU! college. Miss Jennie Hord has gone to Oastonia where she will teach again this year. Mr. and Mfs. Hoyle Elliott, have moved with their family to Gas tonia. Mr. W. M. Elliott will teach in the high school there this year and Miss Nida Elliott will teach in South Gastonia, Mr. Rupert Eaves visted with iiis relatives in Rutherfordtou last week-end, , Mrs. V, A. Black left yesterday with a party of friends for Chim ney Rook. Asheville and other points tp the mountains Missies Tollar and Oerganus, who •are teaching at Piedmont, were the guests of Miss Melba Whitworth last week-end. Mrs. Stough Miller Is visiting her sister this week In Erwin. Tenn. Mrs. Plato Champion has been j quite sick for several days, but is ' improving now. Mrs. Bynum, the well known faith healer of Iron Station was ex pected to visit here on last. Sunday. Miss Viola Anthony has been very sick during the past few days Mrs. Wytlo Costner spent several days at Toluca with relatives the ] first of this week. Mr. Leland Royster of Boiling 1 Springs high school spent the week end at home. Miss Minnie Spangler who has been a teacher in the Baptist Sun day school resigned her class on j last Thursday night at teachers meeting. Mrs. Grover C. Eskridge will be recommended to the church as the new teacher. Miss Vangie Peeler the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Peeler left Monday for Mars Hill college. Mr. Paul Toney who la doing brick mason work near Washing - i ton, D. C. spent the week-end at i home with his mother, Mrs. A. A. Toney Mr. Toney's family lives at Hickory.
