The eighth grade held their sec ond chapel meeting Friday morn ing'at which time a very enjoyable pregram was rendered. x. The devotional exercises were led by Willie Hamrick. The first game of basketball with outsiders, was played Wednesday with the Shanghai school. Th? score 13-12 was favorable to our school. We had a song service in chapel Wednesday morning at which ‘imc special songs were rendered by each grade. By request the faculty sang , “Juanita.’’ j , The second regular Red Cross meeting was held last Thursday during chapel period. Cur pupils have learned two new songs recently They are: (a) “Rcck-ed in the Cradle of the deep" and <b) “Love's Old Sweet Song." They are both beautiful songs. Mane Smart a pupil in Miss Ram sey’s section of the third grade will begin taking piano under Miss Lat timcre next week. We are so glad to have her in the music class. The pupils in Mrs. Kimmie Palls' first grade rendered a very delight ful program last week. After the devcticnals little Gladys Anderson sang very sweetly for us. Following the solo, Lawrence Valentine recited "Which Loved Best?” The Thanks giving song, the next number on the program, was well rendered. Blanton was carried to the Shelby hospital Wednesday, i Mr. Ed Crawford cf Gastonia died | very suddenly Saturday night. Mr. Crawford married Essie Elliott oi j this section. The death came as a shoe': to the entire family. Mr. I and Mrs. Crawford were returning , heme from church Saturday night ; when heart failure struck him' He stopped the car, tlirny up his hands and fell into Mrs. Crawford's arms. A large ciowd from this cominun ity attended the interment at Gas tonia. There was a corn shucking at Mr. Pete Hoyles Tuesday night. A bountiful and delicious supper was served to one hundred and fifty people. Two hundred and fifty ousnete cf corn was realized from the chucking.
