BOILING SPRINGS BUTCH OF NEWS (Special to The Star.) Boiling Springs, Nov. 22.—The ladies of the community who have adopted daughters at the college were most delightfully entertained at a lovely reception in the spac ious hall of the girl’s doinitorv Tuesday evening at 4:30 o'clock by their daughter. The hall was arrang ed appropriately and beautifully with a profusion of chrysanthe mums and brightly colored leaves. Each daughter welcomed her mother at the door and introduced her to other students of the school. Miss Lunette Odum in a beauti ful way extended to the mothers a most cordial welcome and express ed the appreciation of each student to their mothers for their interest in them. Mrs. J. L. Jenkins re sponded to this welcome hi a few well chosen words and assured each daughter that their feeling of love and interest was mutual. An interesting dramatization was given by students of the school which pictured the life of a girl the Kindergarten through high school days, graduation from col lege, as a bride, in the role of mother, and to the ripe old age of grandmother. Miss Lorene Woody sang in beau tiful clear tones "Mother”. After this \ delightful program the guest en joyed a social hour. Punch was \ served all during the evening. The! daughters bade the mothers good -1 bye at the door. Home Economics Meets, j The Home Economics club met atj the home of Mrs. J. L. Pruette Monday afternoon. The meeting was 1 called to order by the president and i the business matters were discussed j It was decided that this club would give an oyster supper in the near future at the public school. The; j following officers which had been: nominated were elected for the en-1 ‘ suing club year: president, Mrs O j P. Hamrick, vice presides Mrs, J . L. Pruette, secretary, Mrs. Dean i White, treasurer. Miss Mabel j Godeo. After the business meeting I adjourned Mrs. Wallace gave a i demonstration on "salads and dress • tags." This lesson was something ; new and practical for the house ! wives and was thoroughly enjoyed ! by all present. Mr. L. H. Patrick of Monroe, Ga, ! spent several days of last week. with Mr. and Mrs. Howington of this place. Mr. J. Y. Hicks of Chrsr.ee spent the week-end with his parents here. The Home Economics club will havp its next regular meeting %t the home of Mrs. Dean White on Dec. 10 instead of the usual time. The demonstratiosr will be < n mak ing Christmas presents and Christ mas candies. Prof, and Mrs. Lawton Blanton, Misses Beaka Blanton and Maude Moorehead of Lattimore visited Mr. and' Mrs. C. I, Putnam Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Dean White and son. Billy and Miss Helen Craw ford spent the week-end with rel atives in Chesnee. S. C. Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Henderson spent the week-end with Mr, Hen derson's parents 'n Forest City. The Rhatr.saeur Literary society will hold its annual debate at the college Saturday evening at 8 o'clock. A play entitled A Poor Married Man” will be give nat .the college here Friday evening at 3 o'clock. The public is cordially invited to attend. Miss Ollie Moore who teaches In Shelby spent the week-end here with her parents. Dr. J. B. Davis is assisting ir. a revival meeting at the first Bap tist church in Shelby this .week. Mr. and Mrs. Easom of Shelby visited the college here Wednesday and Mrs. Easom conducted the chapel exercises. He spoke on “Song Writers and Poets" and also favor ed the audience with several vocal selections. Dr. J. B Davis preached at Holly Springs church in Rutherford county Sunday. He was accom panied there by Misses Cole. Marlow and Whitesides. Mr. Rector Robbins spent the week-end at hi.s home near Ruth erfordton. Miss Martha Hamrick of Earl has reurned to school after an absence of two months on: account of the illness of h.er mother. Picking Checked By The Cold Weather (Special to The Star t The cold weather we have been experiencing for a few days has checked' the cotton picking some. Many of our farmers have a good deal of cotton in the fields yet. We are glad Mrs. D. G. Wash bum was able to return to her home Tuesday ftjfrm the Shelby hos pital. Mr. Malcolm Wilson was operated on last Tuesday at the Rutherford hospital. Hope he will soon be able to return home Mrs. T. P.
