Deities Charges.
Mr. Huffman. lias written a letter
denying the first charge, A portion
of the letter follows;
"... 1 have not embezzled Mrs.

of the Presbyterian Synod of North
Carolina as one of the outstanding
developments of a conference held
there Monday.
That recommendation was adopt
ed in the following form:
“That the small churches be com
bined into one organization either
on the basis of a group of churches
with one pastor, or on the basis of
county lines Or other geographical
divisions.”
The committee on men's work is
proceeding under the general direc
tion of the synod's committee on
Work. Present as members of the
Sub-commit tee were Rev. John L.
Fairley, D. D„ of Wilmington, chair
man: Dr. H. B. Arbuckle oi Da
vidson college: Rev, H. N. McDiar
niid of Shelby, and F. B. Johnson of
Clinton. Dr E. E. Gillespie of
Greensboro, attended the conference
as executive secretary of the North
Carolina synod's work committee
and a member of the sub-committee.

day. In addition to that Bridges

to pay the hospital bill of two
women injured when 1he Bridges
car struck Sloan Phi!beck's car
Sunday night in the lower part of
the eouhty. and also to pay for the
damages to Phil heck's ear
According to the evidence the
Bridges’ car ploughed into the Phii
beck ear injuring two women rid
ing with Philbeek. with the result
that one had to enter the hospital
here for treatment.

Gaffney.—Mack Miller, a negro
born and reared in Gaffney, but a
resident of Pelham, N. Y. for the
past several years. is making a
success as a singer and composer of
