COPELAND, M. D. (United States Senator And Former Health CwwnMonar of Note fork.) Only a few weeks ago the world was enjoying the holiday season. Perhaps the members of the famlli es who pay the bills are lew an* thusiastlc just now about the holiday season than they were on Christ mas morning. But they’ll be happy again when another Christmas rolls around. The fact fa.-we need diversion. We need a UK. CWtLAPO. change from the ordinary routine of life. In deed, we need frequent changes. I say In all reverence, that the Sabbath has a significance beyond the religious one. It Is a day of diversion. Of course, I do not mean by this that It need be made a day of celebration and riotous living. That Is not the sort of diversion I have in mind. But it Is Intended to be a day different from the other six days. It should be a day of relief from the monotony of existence. I , cannot speak too strongly about the need for diversion. It is absolutely essentia! to make provision for regular and frequent changes from the routine of life, no matter how agreeable that routine may be. There is nothing so depressing, so nerve-wearing, so temper-break ing and so deadly as the steady grind of existence. The best machine in the world must have its periods of overhauling. Few engines ever made could run from New York to San Francisco without stopping. The only safe way to run the engine is to have periods and places for regular stops. Certainly this Is the case with the human machine. Not alone does the body require these periods of rest, but the brain and nervous system demand them. I have seen many a friend of mine grow stale by too close appli cation to his work. It is indeed true that “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” What are you doing to vary the monotony of your life? Do you go out to lunch with a friend occa sionally? Do you take a walk in a new part of town? Do you walk in the woods or go into the attic to see how things are there? When did you last go to the theatre or a movie? Do you ever hear a preacher other than your own? How many times a month do you taste other people's food? If you are to be alert, energetic, enthusiastic, abounding in health and vigor, you must have diversion. You must have a change of thought and scene. These tilings arc essen tial to your good health and long life. Answers To Health Queries. M. B. Q- What do you advise for burning of the bottom of the feet? g.—I have yellow spots before my eyes—they are not sore and the vision is, perfect—what would you advise?
