IS’ow Rev. Rilling Is In Leavenworth , Prison For Embezzle ment. „ You can't win Many a man be hind the bars has added his voice to that chorus. And. oddly enough, one of the most recent to take up the refrain is a highly respected singer, music teacher, and former minister, who tried to "beat the game” for love of a golden-haired girl. He changed his name; he hid with his inamorata 1,000 miles from their homes; he took up a new life. But today he Is serving a year and a day in Leavenworth. He is the Rev, Rollo Rilling, of Davenport, la., the son of a Kan kakee minister. When he was ar rested with his bride, the former Lucille Flick, of Davenport, they were living in El Paso as Mr. and Mrs. Lewis FarwelL Rilling was firmly entrenched in Davenport's social circles, the hus band of a local favorite and the father of a boy and girl, when he met Lucile Flick. The beautiful Lucille was the daughter of a vice president of the bank in which Rilling was employed, following his retirement from the ministry. Rilling and Lucille forgot every thing except each other. The man settled his affairs at the bank— with the exception of a $500 muni cipal bond—and the couple took flight. (Copyright 1929 Fremler Syndicate) Hollywood.—One of these days when time hangs heavy—as It has been known to do—I shall set forth with vim and vitality and round up a few choice expressions that enlarge the talky vocabulary. A rather startling initiation into the argot has been called to my atten tion. It seems Louise Fazenda was making hi-Jlnks in “The Desert Song.” Louise talks and seeks In this Initial endeavor to transpose musical comedy into celluloid. While rehearsing a scene a voice cried: "Hit her with the rifle.” Louise smiled. Somebody was in for it. "Hit her with the rifle. I say!” The voice was very angry. "I mean Miss Fazenda, nitwit.” Louise found herself following her feet and her feet were beating Olympic records to the exit. "What's the idea?” Director Del Ruth yelled. "Nobody's going to hit me with a rifle,” she panted. Whereupon it was explained that being hit with a rifle was merely a cameraman's order to flood her with a long, thin Incandescent light. Louise returned to the set, still a little dubious but trusting In the chivalry that boasts: "Children and women first!” If the psychopathic wards are not too full, perhaps Hollywood's cur rent fad may Interest others. It country as "Mr. and Mrs. Farwell,” stopping long enough to cam some money and fleeing when they saw anyone from the home town. Meanwhile Mrs. Rilling had obtain ed a divorce and the "Farwells” were married. Settling in El Paso, the couple be came well established, but Nemesis overtook them. Miss Vinnie Harris, of Davenport, visiting there for her health, recognized Rilling and notified the authorities. He was under indictment for the theft of the $500 bond) Weary of bucking the game, Rill ing plead guilty and took his sen tence. The golden-haired girl will be waiting in El Paso, she says, whesi a year and a day have pass ed. They will be happier after that, they believe, because scores will be even. can be Indulged In any time, any place, with reservations at one’s discretion. It has been suggested by those who do so indulge, however, that asperins be near at hand. The idea is to "slang" sentences out of normal words. The game is not novel to certain New York play boy and girl groups, but out here , he or she adept at it is more admir ed than a college graduate. Or does this listen too emphatic. A group commenced the game at the barbecue party Phyllis Haver and Ona Brown chucked ’tother eve. There were about 350 guests milling in the tent erected in the yard, so credits may be slightly askew 1 “Make a sentence with the word "sanato,” Bebe Daniels was asked. Bebe cogitated. Then: "Just ‘so nato’ day wasted away.” "Here’s one with ‘erratic,” Dick Arlen oared in. "That girl has bats in ‘erratic'.” Thereupon Jack Oakie yelled from the shadowy sidelines: "For maldehydeing’ places came running de Indians." And Bert Lyteli opined: "I'll ‘lavaliere’ of corn.” On and on, far into the night Jibed the quipping tongues unto a weary voice was heard to mutter: “‘Assiduous’ a fool and I meant if DOLLAR DAYS SPECIALS — AT — SUTTLE’S Thursday And Friday April, 25th and 25th DR.
