W Hamrick and Frank Hamrick, jr. left Shelby by motor yesterday for Savannah, Missouri, where Mr Hamrick will undergo treatment at the Nichols hospital. Mr. Heyward Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs. Z, J. Thompson arriv ed in Shelby from Tulane univer j sity. New Orleans Thursday. Mr. Thompson is a medical student at Tulane, and has reached the point in the curriculum where he has been appointed interne at the Southern Baptist hospital, in the Crescent City. This will be tiie young man's first \isit home in many months. Mrs. John Wacaster and Muss Gertrude Street of Waco attended the Charlotte divisional meeting at Thomasville this week. Misses Louise lever and Alpha Cettys left Wednesday night, for a i pleasure trip to Washington and New York. Mrs. Alice Boland and daughter, Miss Gertrude and Mr. Reid Misen hctnier returned yesterday after noon from Wilmington and Wrights ville Beach. Mesdamcs E. E Hulick and W. A. The men or Grover Presbyterian church will present a womanless wedding at the Grover high school auditorium tonight at 8 o'clock. The bride will be J. F Hambrlght and the groom Quince Hope. LeGrand spent yesterday in Spartanburg. Capt and Mrs. G C. Mattison of Jacksonville. Fla. will stop over Sunday with their sister, Mrs. L. C. Bost for a few days, enroute to Washington, D. C. Miss Bessie Turner and nephew, Philip Oates, of Rutherfordton, are spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Washburn. Miss Mary Helen Lattimore re turned last night from a visit to Raleigh and will leave Monday for Winthrop college. Rock Hill, S. C. where she will study piano under Dorsey Whittington, a concert ar tist of New York city. Mrs. J. T. Gardner returned home this week after a visit to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cole in Charlotte, Master Chas. McBraycr of Lai timore visited David Royster for a few days this week. Miss Ruth ' Thompson returned Wednesday from a week's visit to relatives in Charlotte. Mr and Mrs. Dave McBrayer of Lattimore are visiting their daugh ter, Mrs. S. S. Royster. Mr. Lewis Porter of Spartanburg was a Shelby visitor yesterday. Messrs. Max Washburn and Wil liam McCord arrived back in Shel by Thursday from attendance at the hardware convention held at Blow ing Rock. Charles L. Eskridge, in Charlotte on business Thursday, passed up a banquet Thursday night to hurry home to attend the dinner of the Merchants association, and arrived at the Hotel Charles just in time to see the diners emerge from the din ing room. The result was, he did some light housekeeping at home. Miss Sara Ellen Wray, daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Wray, entered the Shelby hospital Thursday for a few days' treatment. Negro Congressman’s Wife Mrs. Hoover’s Guest at Wmte House Washington, June 13.—The wife of Oscar DePriest, negro representative from Illinois, was a guest at a tea given yesterday at the White House by Mrs. Hoover is entertaining the wom en of the congressional set. There were about W women present. Following an established cus tom in connection with these functions, the names of the guests were not announced of ficially at the White House.
