Electric Refrigerators Sold Here Cannot Result InP oison Poison gas from electric re frigerators reported to have caused the death of several per sons in Chicago recently, can not result from machines of the type distributed in Shelby a survey revealed yesterday. Electric refrigerators causing trouble in the "Windy City" use Methyl chloride gas. it was learned, while Prigidaires, Kel vinators and General Electric machines, the three types sold here, operate on sulphur dtox lde, which is harmless unless inhaled In large quantities. Sul phur dioxide, which is used ex tensively in preserving fruit, has a pungent odor, and can be detected immediately, whereas methyl chloride Is odorless. "Electric machines sold in Shelby are absolutely safe in every respect,'* a dealer said yesterday, and there is no cause for alarm in connection with the Chicago case. Machines giving trouble there are entirely dif ferent from the three makes sold here." PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. E. SeoM and fam ily spent Tuesday In Charlotte.
