Doggett were among the Shelby people at tending the horse show at Blow ing Rock Wednesday. Miss Mary Helen Lattimore left Thursday morning for a week's visit to friends at Rockingham. Mr Lee Nolan, of the J. C. Pen ney organization, was operated on yesterday at the Charlotte sanitor ium. It is understood the operation was serious enough to keep the pa tient at the sanitorium for two weeks. Mrs. Lewis Forney spent a few days this week with Mesdamrs Ward and Will Are.v at Blowing Rock. Miss Lucile Anders of Roxboro, s visiting her uncles. Messrs W H Blanton and J. A. Wilson and fam ilies. Miss Ella Lipscomb of the J. C Penny company leaves Saturday night for Tybee Beach to spend her two weeks' vacation. Miss Margaret Blanton left yes terday for a visit to Miss Katherine Rogers at Griffin, Ga. Mr B B Byers, representative of the Standard Oil Co., of New Jer sey in this territory, leaves Satur day for Washington, D. C., Bayone and Bayway, N. J., and New York City. He will go through intensive training at the Standard Oil refin eries and return home in time for the Sesque Centenial and home coming in Rutherford county Aug. 16th. Born last. Hisses Mary and Virginia Jenkins returned the first of the week from a visit to the eastern part of the state. Miss Mary Louise Huffman of Morganton is visiting Miss Roberta Royster, at Fallston. Mrs. E E. Holcomb remains quit* sick at her home on S. DeKalb street. Mrs. H K. Boyer returned Wed nesday from a ten days visit to rel atives at Seven Mile Ford, Va. She was accompanied home by her sis ter. Mrs. M. M. Thomas of Rich mond. va Dr. Boyer motored up for them on Monday. Miss Reba Price of Forest City is visiting Miss Jennie Lee Packard. Mrs. J. M. Austin of Wadesboro will arrive tomorrow to visit her father, Mr. Chas. Webb. Messrs. George Sperling and Wil liam Outz of Charlotte returned Tuesday from a business and pleas ure trip to New York Atlantic City and Virginia Beach. Conn, left Shelby for his home today, after a three days' visit to his relatives here. Mr Charles L. Eskridge plans a beach trip for Sunday; probably is ambitious to get. a sun tan. BOILING SPRINGS SOCIAL-PERSONAL (Special to The Star.) Boiling, Springs. Aug. fl.—The Tongues and Needles club met at the home of Mrs. Bert Hamrick Fri day afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The home was attractively arranged with a bounteous array of lovely summer flowers. The business meet ing was held and the regular rou tine of business followed. After the business meeting adjourned the hos tess gave an interesting •'Vegetable" contest. Mrs, H. B Greene was giv en a lovely prize as high score.
