Gardner auxiliary No. 5 of the Unit ed Spanish war veterans was held st the club room Wednesday altc noon at 5:30 o'clock with Mrs. J. A. gaits. the president, presiding. Twelve members were present and plans and suggestions were madt for the meeting during the wln'er, which will be helc the last Wednes day of each month. The next meet ing will be the last Wednesday in October. Birthday Party. Master Bobby Elmore, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Decatur Elmore, delightfully entertained about twen ty of his little friends with * party on his birthday last Wednesday at his home on Grover street. After playing outdoor games for an hour or mose the children were lnvtted to the dining room which was prettily decorated with garden flowers and tte five pink candles on the white Urthday cake were Mown out by the host after which the Cake was served with ice cream end each guest was given a box of animal cracker* as favors. Miss CMlie Louise Birring*.' of Cleveland, this state, and Hc'.and McSwain of Shelby were married at the home of Mr. and Mrs J. C Bundy, Myers Park, Charlotte, Rt 8 o'clock Tuesda„ night. The ceremony was performed by Rev. L. R. Jordtn, pastor of Di' worth Methodist church. The rin" ceremony was used. The bride and groom came down the stairs and stood In the archway where the vows were spoken. Prior to the ceremony Miss Eliza beth Bundy played 'Melody of Love following by the wedding march. Thr bride wore navy georgette with tan accessories and a shoulder corsage of vail;'/, lilies and pinV i rosebuds. After life wedding ait informal reception was held. The rooms were decorated with summer flow ers mid soft light. The bride is the attractive daugh* ter of Mrs. .1 H Barringer. She re ceived her education at Marion col lege, Marion. Va., and N. C C. W. The groom is a native of Shelby He is a graduate of the University of N, C and a member Sigma Zola fraternity. After the reception the bride and groom lelt for a week’s trip in the mountains of Western North Caro lina. Miss Nolan (iives Bridge I’arty. A very beautiful bridge party was that given by Miss Kathleen Nolan Wednesday afternoon at. 4 o’clock at her handsome home on N. La Favette street, honoring her sister in-law, Mrs. Clyde Nolan, a bride of two weeks. Sharing honors with Mrs. Nolan were: Mesdames Robert Hord, Connelly Eskridge, Ed Mc Curry and Ben Hendrick. The lower floor of the Nolan home was thrown en suite and ela borately decorated with orchid as ters, golden glow, gorgeous pink roses and clematis. The eleven bridge tables were graced with silver and crystal vases Of the mixed Hov ers. Mrs. J. B. Nolan wearing blue georgette greeted the guests on tlieii arrival at the front door. Miss Kathleen Nolan received in orchid chllffon and preicnted Mrs. Clyde Nolan who was gowned in Kings blue chiffon with cream laee bertha. Mrs. Robert Hord was at tired in pink flowered chiffon with picture hat. Mrs. Eskridge wore rose chiffon and green picture hat. Mrs Ed McCurry wore powder tan chif fon and picture hat and Mrs. Ben Hendrick was attired in purple ^chiffon and smal1 hat. Mrs. Vick Wray, wearing g een flowered chif fon directed the guests to the tables where thsv found their place; with the most attractive tallies done in designs of tiny brides and grooms. West Shelby Youths In Two More Wins Tuesday afternoon of this w^ck the West Shelby juniors defeated the Shelby mill juniors 19 to 9 and on Thursday defeated Marion Street 12 to 2. Lewis. Morrison and Silvers pitch ed for the Shelby mill, while Maun ey and Hutchins pitched for West Shelby. A start in this direction was made last week when the ”Katv Flyer,” the M-K-T’s crack train had a broken piston valve on the engine near Temple. Texas. The engineer, coasted until he came to a garage, stopped his train, had the valve repaired at a cost of 75 cents and pulled out 30 minutes late.
