Negroes Of Gaston To Attend Fair In Shelby This Friday Gastonia Gazette, The colored population of Gas tonia and the county will likely turn out in large numbers next Friday for the last negro excursion of the season, and what promises to be the biggest. The excursion in question is being put, on in connec tion with the big Cleveland County Negro Fair, which will be at its height on this day, and negroes are expected to crowd the excursion trains, which .will carry crowds to Shelby froni Salisbury, Concord, Charlotte, Gastonia, Kings Moun tain, and Blacksburg, S. C. With a football game, horse race, and many other free acts, including fire works, on the fair program for Friday, October 18. it is expected that a record crowd of colored peo ple will flock to the Cleveland negro fair. Thp train will leave Gastonia at 9:30 o’clock Friday morning, and will not leave Shelby until 11:00 o'clock in the evening. Miss Grace Sarratt of Limestone college, Gaffney, S. C., spent, the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. JSarratt. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neal of Clin ton. S. C , spent Sunday in the vil lage. the guest of Mrs. T. M. Moss. Mrs. R. E. Nichols and Mrs. R P. Bryson Walker, 98. Of Ruthcr fordton, Buried Near Ellenboro. Rutherfordton, Oct. H.—Mrs. Bry j son Walker, age 98, the oldest per | son in Rutherford county, was bur [ ied at Ellenboro this afternoon. She died suddenly j’osterday | morning at the home of her daugh ter, Mrs. Lindsey Purgason near i Bostic, with whom she lived. She appeared to be in her usual health, which was unusually good for one of her age. She awoke early, after a good night's rest, dressed herself as usual and was putting on her shoes when her daughter came Into her room and found her dead sit ting in a chair. She passed sudden ly and without any struggle. She was a resident of Ellenboro for 30 years before moving to the country. She was a charter member of Beth el church, Ellenboro, one of the old est Baptist churches in the county. Her husband died about 35 years ago. She was born and reared in Rutherford county. She was a de voted member of the Baptist church and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends and relatives. She leaves two daughters and one son, Mrs. Purgason and Mrs. Lucy Grayson of Bostic and Raleigh Wal ker of near Ellenboro. Twenty-four grandchildren and 12 great grand children.
