Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baber were hosts at a dinner party Saturday evening at their home on Cleveland springs road. The guests included, Mrs. Kate Powers of Ruthetcrdton and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Baber and family. Afternoon lea. Tha outstanding social event of the week will be the large after noon tea given by Mrs. E. A. Houser at her home on West Warren street honoring Mrs. Dwight Houser. The calling hours will be from 3:30 to k p. m. Social Calendar For Week. Thursday 3:30 p. m.—Afternoon division No. 2 meets at the club room. Mrs. Talmadfre Gardner, chairman of hostess committee. Thursday 8 p. m.—The evening division of the Woman's club meets with Mrs. Ceph Blanton and Miss Roaa Mae Shuford at their home on Graham street. Friday 3:30 p. m.—The Twentieth Century club will meet with Mrs. S. a Royster at her home on South Washington street. Mba Mchbmirr Honan Brother. Miss Sara Rlchbourg delightfully entertained last Thursday evening at her home on South LaFayette street with three tables of bridge, honoring her brother. Mr. Ashton Rlchbourg, of Baltimore, who has been visiting his parents for a week. The living room and tables were attractively decorated with mixed autumn flowers. At the close of the evening delicious hot choco late with sandwiches and mints were served. The party included. Misses Rlchbourg, Elsie Hardin, Ruth Ham rick, Trances Hendrick and Ella Lipscomb. Messrs. Rlchbourg, Hack Mima, Howard Spry, Russell John son and David Levine. Birthday Dinner. Mrs. Charles Williamson’s chll dien gave her a delightful surprise birthday dinner on November 9 in celebration of her fifthy-eventh birthday anniversary. Soon after Hie arrival of the family and friends the children presented their mother with a handsome black: coat trimmed in fur. Mr. Hoyt Cline, a son-in-law, barbecued the folly wing meats down at the old spring, o’pos sum. chicken and mutton. A bounti ful picnic lunch was served on a long table 1n the yard, which all thoroughly enjoyed. Immediately after the dinner, the entire family netted the cemetery at Rehobeth church and decorated the graves of their father and grand-parents with white and yellow chrysanthemums. This was a family reunion, nr.d there ware aeven children. nine grandchijdren and a number cf intimate friends present. Bride-elect Honored. The Blue Parrot Tea Room on South Washington street was ar tistically arranged with white and yellow chrysanthemums yesterday afternoon, when Mesd&mes Tom and Cbnnelly Eskridge were joint host esses with a lovely bridge party, honoring Miss Evelyn Wilkins who will wed Mr. Meredith Hennessa next month. Each of the five tablts were graced with end vases of large chrysanthemums. The guests found their places with attractive bride tallies and a dainty little doll in bridal attire marked the bride-elects table. The high score prize was won by Mrs. Brevard Hennessa and the t onoree gowned in a green cre;,e afternoon dress with hat ..f lie same shade was presented with a trousseau gift. Mrs. Tom Eskridge received in a black velvet costume and Mrs. Connelly Eskridge woie navy blue georgette. A dc'ightful chicken salad course with accessories end mints was served and dainty yellow nut cups were at each plate Rasiness Woman's Circle Meek The Business Woman's circle cf the Methodist church met at the home of Miss Elisabeth Robert: Monday evening. Mrs. Roy Newman the chairman presiding- In the ousi neas session the following new of ficers were elected: chairman, Mrs J. T. Besson; vice chairman, Mrs Roy Newman; secretary. Miss Fern Heigh; treasurer. The Entres Nous bridge club meets with Mrs. Will King Friday after noon at 3:30 o'clock at her home on Sumter street. Mr. And Mrs. Barter Hosts. Mr. and Mrs. John McClurd vvpve hosts at a delightful dinner party Tuesday evening at their home on W. Warren street honoring two of the city school teachers. A four course dinner was served and covers were laid for Miss Sara Cowan of Rutherfordton, Mr. W. T. Sinclair, Mr. and Mrs, Fred Baber, Mr. and Mrs. George Hoyle, Mr. and Mrs. McClurd and John McClurd, jr. l.al ayette School l’arent-Teachrrs Association. The regular meeting of the nar ent-Teachers association of the un Fayette street school was held at the building Monday evenin'? a I 7:30 o'clock. Mrs. Everett Putnam the president, presiding. About 2JC or more were present, this being the largest crowd that has ever at ' tended. The devotional was led bj j the fifth grade pupils and the pray er by Rev. Forbls. A very entertain ing Armistice program was present ed by the sixth grade, Miss Jcssu Mae Mackie. teacher. In the business meeting the as sociation agreed to buy 150 sonf books for the school. Mr. R. T. Le Grand donated a good basketball and football to the school. The prize of one dollar was awarded to the sixth grade for the greatest num ber of parents present. The smocl has been having special chapel ex ercises each morning this week* in celebration of educational week. A! the exercise this morning thers were at least 75 visitors. Lucy Hoyle Circle Meet, The Lucy Hoyle circle of the Central Methodist church which is one of the largest missionary so cieties of the church held their reg ular meeting Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the young people's assembly room with Mcsdames R. M. Laughridge and J. L. McDowell as hostess. Forty-three members re sponded to the roll call. Miss Isa bel Hoey, the president, conducted ♦he meeting.
