Mrs. Paul Harris and Mrs. Modlin of Rutherfordton, were Shelby shoppers Tuesday. Mrs. Jean Schenck and Mis. Tom Abernethy of Cherryville, are spending a few days at Pinchurst. Mr. and Mrs. William McCord spent the week end in Asheboro. Mr McCord returned Monday, but Mrs McCord will spend some time with her parents. Mr .Robert Harnes of Winston Salem, was a Shelby visitor on Tues day. Mr. John Schenck sr., of Lawndale is spending a few' days in Washing ton, D. C., tliis week Miss Lucy Oates of Lawndale Is in the Shelby hospital for treatment Mrs. John Schenck of Lawndale, is spending a few days at the home of Mrs. Ceph Blanton. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Young and two daughters, were Shelby visitors on Monday They are from Aburn, Alabama and are visiting relatives at Forest City. Mrs. C. A. Morrison returned f: om a visit to Rev. and Mrs T B Johnson at Winston-Salem. While away she attended the Woman's missionary conference at High Point and visited her daughters. Misses Elizabeth and Louise Morrison, N. C C. W. at Greensboro, during the musical contest Mrs P M Washburn is improving nicely at the Shelby hospital, fol lowing an operation last Friday Miss Ella McNichols, who spent the Easter holidays at her home at Merchantville, N. J., is expected back this week. Governor and Mrs. O. M. Gardner and Mrs. J C Baskervllle, of Raleigh spent Monday night here enroute to Raleigh from Asheville Judge and Mrs. James L. Webb and Mr. and Mrs. R L Ryburn will motor to Pinehurst to attend the Bar association on Thursday, and from there they go to Raleigh to spend the week end with Governor and Mrs O. M. Gardner. Junior Baptists Lose A Contest Belmont, April 29.—Socking the ball to all corners of the field' in the first two innings, to garner 11 runs, Coach Wheeler's Belmont Ab bey boys today swamped Boiling Springs by the lopsided score of 14 to 2. This is Boiling Springs second loss to a junior college this season and Belmont's 5th victory in seven starts. Further disclosures show that of the 20.00S possibilities lor Baptist Sunday schools only around half of them are enrolled in our schools and only about six thousand in regu lar attendance. Our workers in all the churches will observe that the larger number is yet outside our schools. The multitudes are yet to be reached. Walter Hagen and Leo Diegel will also do an all-talking comedy on golf, called “Match Play.’ The Lyric theatre is running an all-talking feature picture, “Woman Trap." today and tomorrow, star ring Hal Skelly. Evelyn Brent and Chester Morris. This is a first run picture to which is added a special comedy attraction to complete the program. Nothing has improved screen comedy like the coming of talking and sound equipment.
