He will be con nected with a large export tobacco firm of Danville, Va . which main-: tains a foreign office in Shanghai. Misses Hath Blanton and Inec McLaurin, botli of Charlotte, writ' ithe week-end guests of Mr and Mrs Yates McSwain. Messrs Graham Anthony. of Hartford, Connecticut. and John Anthony, of Baltimore, are at home this week, having arrived Sunday to attend the funeral of their mother. Mrs. J. A Anthony, which took place ! Monday. Mrs. G, F Lane and- infant [daughter, who was born at the Shel by hospital on November 5. were [able to leave the hospital on Sun day and go to the home. of Mrs. Lane's parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. A: Flam, in the Dover Mill village. Mrs. Lane was formerly Miss Bright Lane. She and Mr Lane are at present making their home at Franklinton. Mr and Mrs B L. Smith Went to Rutherfordton on Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mrs, Rc;>s Hill, who died in a Philadelphia hos pital last Thursday, She was for merly Miss, Fannie Justice and a native of Rutherfordton. Miss Mary Faye Penninger, who has been making her home in Gas tonia with a brother recently, is here visiting her sister, Mrs. Julian Thompson, and Mr. Thompson. Miss Myrtle Harris'of Waynesvillr spent the week-end here with friends at the h'osuital. Governor and Mrs. O Max Gard ner. of Raleigh, Mr. and Mrs. Bate ■ Gardner, Miss. A. Anthony. Miss Gertrude Taylor, a member of the high school faculty, spent the 'week-end with relatives in Rulher fordton. The many friends of Miss Myrtle Warren, who has visited Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Hoey here on many oc casions, will be distressed to learn that she has been quite illl with diphtheria. Her condition is report ed as somewhat improved at pres* ent. Mr. and Mrs p. R. During her first week she examined 501 chil dren in the South Shelby and Lafayette schools. There are 385 of them defective in some particular. . A complete Itemized listing fol lows : Nutrition 50, posture 8, vision 04 teeth 218, throat 320, orthopedic 6, skin 4. other 13 Her work the second week was in [the La Fayette and Graham schools [She examined 391 children and ! found 300 defective. Already a number of parents have taken steps to make corrections.
