Collins Warns Of
Over Confidence
Carolina Coach Fears That Big Vic
tory Over Virginia May Handi
cap Team.
Chapel Hill. Dec. 3.—Carolina
concentrated and organized Its
potential powers to please a mul
titude of fans in a 41-0 victory
over Virginia, but Coach Chuck
Collins fears that the one-sided
victory may have the effect of
giving the Tar Heels overconfid
ence in the state championship
game with Duke here Saturday.
Such overconfidence might easily
prove disastrous for Carolina. The
Duke team is expected to be at top
fighting edge as the result of hav
ing been held to close margins the
last two weeks by Wake Forest and
Washington and Lee.
The Carolina mentor is doing
everything possible to stave off
such an attitude. Repeated warn
ings have been given against over
confidence. Heavy work Is being dis
pensed daily. All Coach Collins will
venture In the way of predictions is
that Carolina will put up a great
fight If the line plays as it did at
Virginia.
Season records prove much of
nothing. In the state, Duke beat
Davidson 13-0, but Carolina lost to
the Cats 7-0. Carolina beat Wake
Forest 13-6, but Duke tied the Dea
cons 13-13. Carolina and Duke beat
state 13-6 and 18-0, respectively.
Carolina beat Virginia, 41-0. Vir
ginia beat Washington and Lee 21-7
and Duke licked Washington and
Lee 14-0. Duke, it is remembered,
beat Virginia hi early season by
32-0.
The Tar Heels started the week's
hard training In good physical con
dition, and Coach Collins’ word is
that no effort will be spared to put
the squad In top shape for what
may be the toughest game of the
year.

Installment plan," says a barber. A

Durham, Dec. Duke’s Blue
Devils Intend to nut every ounce
of offensive strength into the
battle with Carolina' next Sat
urday, if scrimmages this week
indicate anything.
The Blue Devils are spending very
jlittle time with defensive work, but
are uncorking a stiff series of ag
gressive scrimmages, indicating that
Duke hopes to lose no time in open
ing a strong attack.
New plays are being added to the
I Devils’repertoire this week; in fact,,
some of them have been used in
practices for several weeks, Ever
since the Kentucky Wildcats were
sent home defeated the Blue Devils
have been point to their tilt with
the Tar Heels.
Throughout the season Duke has
been comparatively lucky in regard
to Injuries of a serious nature, anti
now are In fighting shape for Caro

The Duke-Carolina game will be
the gridiron fade-out for five Devil
players: Rupp, Murray, Ha.vos, Cap
tain Davis, and Rosky, Each of
them leaves a great foot balk record
for the Duke annals, and while
Rupp and Davis have not been in
the game a great deal this kseason
their services have been as Invalu

An all-state, an all-southern, or
an all-American eleven does not
mean so much, yet fans as well fts

year North and South Carolina will
have two places on all-Southern

any teams at all. We refer to John

Dodd, of Tennessee, ranks next
to Carideo, of Notre Dame, for all

unanimous choice for all-Southern.
We believe Dodd to be as smart as
Rockne’s great field general, and
the equal of Carideo as a punter.
Never have we seen a smarter foot
