Excess Profit Tax
To Be Eliminated
Public Service Corporations Must
Tar 15 Percent Above JO Per
Cent Profit.
Raleigh, Mar. 10.—The house ft.
liancj committee by a vote of 8 to
7 tonight eliminated the provision
for excess profit tax on public serv
ice corporations.
The section was estimated to raise
$600,000. With other eliminations
from the budget bureau's revenue
bill, the committee has cut out a to.
tal of $1,000,000 from that which the
budget bureau expected to raise, the
supporters of the section said.
The section, which v--..s recom
mended by the tax commission, pro
vided by a 15 percent tax on all
public service corporations, on their
earnings of over 10 per cent on their
assessed valuation. The committee
on oral vote ruled down a motion to
repeal the present exemption of for
eign stocks from taxation.
