Roberts and Misses Lama and Azalea Blanton spent Sunday in Asheville, dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Q. W. Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. John Beam had as their guest last week Mrs. John T. Thomason of Charlotte, a sister of Mrs. Beam. Mrs. J. T. Gardner returned Sat urday from Raleigh where she vis ited Governor and Mrs. Gardner at the mansion for a few days. She stopped over in Lexington on' her return and visited relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Zollie Riviere and Mr. Pink Riviere spent Sunday in Charlotte with their mother, Mrs. S. E. Riviere who will celebrate her 86th birthday tomorrow. 1 heir mother Is in splendid health con sidering her advanced years. Miss Tlnsalora Hoey, formerly with the Paragon Furniture Co., has accepted a position as bookkeeper at the Campbell department store. She entered her duties this morn ing. Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Nolan and son, Paul Vernon, of Marion, and Dr. and Mrs. J. O. Nolan and son, Jam es, of Kannapolis, spent Sunday here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Nolan. Mr. A. V. Noim is county superintendent of schools in McDowell while Dr. Nolan Is a practising physician at Kannapolis. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Farris and Miss Willie Witherspoon spent Sat urday in Statesville at the bedside of their sister, Mrs. Sigmon who is in a hospital there. Mrs. Gerald McBrayer and Mrs. George Holmes, the latter of Knox ville, Tenn., returned here yesterday from Dothan, Ala., where they went to be at the bedside of their brother, Dr. Allen McBrayer, who died there Friday night. Misses Anne Boykin and Austine Brackett spent the week-end visiting friends in Charlotte. Mrs. Fred Wagner, who has been in Atlanta with relatives for some time, returned here last week and spent several days. She left Satur day, moving to Umadilla, Ga., where she will make her home for the present. Mr. Fields Young, jr., re-entered the Shelby hospital 8unday for treatment. He has been ill for more than a week. Miss Jeanette Gold, of Blacksburg, 1? the guest of her aunt, Mrs. S. M. Poston, and Mr. Poston on Cleve land Springs road. Miss Novella White returned home last Thursday from Raleigh where she took the state board examina tion for nurses. Miss White went to Charlotte for the week-end where she visited relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Mitchell and son. Bobby Dean, of Hickory Grove, 8. C., are visiting Mrs. C. A. Good here. Miss Alma Newman spent the week-end in Kannapolis visiting friends. The many friends of Mrs. Paul Webb, jr., will be happy to know that she is better and able to be out some after being ill for a month with influenza and pleurisy. Mr. Frank Hull, of Charlotte, spent the week-end here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Ligon. Miss Hull and her son, Frank, Jr„ who have been here with Mr. and Mrs. Ligon for several weeks, re turned home with Mr. Hull yester day. Mr. Jimmy Erwin is in the Shelby hospital undergoing treatment. He is suffering with tonsilitis. Mr. R. N. Gurley returned to Hick ory this morning after spending the week-end here with Mr. and Mrs. Renn Drum. Mr. Gurley, Mr. and Mrs. Drum and Mr. and Mrs. Joe E Nash spent Sunday In Columbia, S. C., where they visited Mrs. Gurley who has been very ill there for some weeks. Her condition is some what improved though she is still quite ill. Mrs. W. A. Hord and son, W. A., jr„ spent last week in Marion visit ing the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nichols. Mr. Hord and Mrs. Hord’s sister, Miss Roe Nichols, went to Marion yesterday afternoon and Mrs. Hord and her son returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. J, C. McNeely spent yesterday in Charlotte at the bed side of Mr. McNeely's father, Mf. R. F. McNeely, of Greensboro, who is recovering from a recent opera tion in the Charlotte sanltorium. Little Miss Nancy Lineberger spent the week-end in Charlotte visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sher rill, ; Miss Winnie Ric.kett, Junior-In termediate B. Y. P. U. leader for North Carolina .spent the week-end here as guest of Mr. and Mrs. Fields Young. Miss Elizabeth Spangler entered the Shelby hospital this maiming for treatment. Miss Virginia Austell of Green ville, S. C., spent part of last week here visiting her grandmother. Mrs S. F. Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Luther C?. Thompson returned to Green ville with her yesterday where they will spend this week visiting in Miss Austell’s home. Mrs. L. M. Hill, of Charlotte, and guest, Miss Sybil Marie Haymes, of Chattanooga. Tenn., were week-end visitors of Mrs. Hill’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Major Hopper Mr, Hill and Mr. V. L. Reitze, of Charlotte, came up on Sunday and Mrs. Hill and Miss Haymes accompanied them back to Charlotte. » Mr, and Mrs. Jake Thomas an nounce the birth of a daughtei. Mr. Jesse Washburn. of High Point, spent the week-end here with his grandfather, Mr. J. J. McMurry. Friends- of Miss Ruth Hopper will be distressed to know that she has been suffering for the past week with an attack of sinus trouble and a severe cold. Gene Kirkpatrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Kirkpatrick, is able to return to school today after being ill last week with flu. Miss Elizabeth Spangler entered the Shelby hospital today for treat ment.
