Every bushel of sweet potato*) that is bedded should be treated. The potatoes may be clean, but .the soil might contain a disease; there fore .very little cost is very essen tial in treating our potatoes. Mer curic chloride, which is corrosive sublimate, is recommended for the treatment of sweet potatoes. Use this as follows: Four ounces to 2 quarts of hot water to dissolve crystals; then make this up to thirty gallons, w-ith cold water; merge the sweet ■potatoes for eight minutes, remove [them from the solution, drain, and !bed at once. Rinsing is not neces sary. For good smooth sweet potatoes, [they should be grown on deep, sandy I loam soil, well drained. The number of plants generally used to the acre j varies considerably according to I he land and the individual's idea. From nine to twelve thousand plaitt, are generally used; from ten to twelve thousand make a mighty good set ting for ordinary land. 1 Fertilizing of -sweet potatoes is very Important, as to the analysis, | potatoes being a root crop, it re ! quires a large amount of potash. A {good formula for sweet potatoes I would be 8-4-3 or 8-4-10. The appli-j i cation depends on the soil, but!
