After a bnef business meeting Miss Isabelle Hoey gave a mast interesting discussion of current happenings In the news. Mrs Hal Schenck read a paper of unusual charm, in which she re viewed Hendrick van Loon's life of Rembrandt. Mrs. Renn Drum con cluded the program by giving brief reviews of several new books with particular emphasis on Somerset Maugham’s “Cakes and Ale.” During the social half hour Mrs. | Hudson was assisted by Mrs. Bre vard Hennessa in serving an ice and [sweet course in which the color note of pink was attractively carried out. Mrs. W. A, Thompson, of Little Rock, Ark., a former member of the club, was an out-of-town guest. -, — ! Miss Lades Has | Pretty Party. Miss Grace Hades delightfully entertained a few of her friends at a birthday party Friday evening at the home of her parent*, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Eades, on N. Washing ton street. The home was beauti fully decorated in pink and white. The color scheme was carried out in every detail of the evening's enter tainment. After music contests and pro gressive conversation were engaged in, the hostess was assisted by Misses Fay Roberts and Earl Lackey in serving a delicious ice course. In place of the regular meeting of the Garden club yesterday after- j noon, a group of about 20 of the i members went to Gastonia where'■ they visited some of the beautiful j private gardens there. In Gastonia they were met by a committee com-1 posed of the Garden club president.' Mrs. Vernon, who was accompanied i by Mrs. Timberlake and Mrs. Wil-1 Hams, and this committee conducted1 the visiting ladies around to the i various gardens. Mr. Thurman Beam and Misses Daisle Poston, Bertie Lee Beam. Nellie White and Florence Beam at tended the commencement exercises at Buffalo school last Friday night. Mr. Nalth Anthony of Cherryville and Mrs. Margaret Anthony of near Bethlehem church were the week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Howell. On Sunday morning they, together with Mr. and Mrs. Howell visited Mr. Mike Baker of near Fall ston who is very sick. Miss Vangie McSwain visited Miss Emma Sellers Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs V. V. Wright attend ed the commencement sermon at Belwood last Sunday afternoon. We were very glad Indeed to see so many people at church Sunday morning Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Cornwell of Shelby and Mrs. Hoyle Elliott and daughter. Nida, and Miss Net Whitworth of Waco were jamong the visitors. Misses Annie Roberta and Pauline Culbreth sang I a duet.
