Honors.
With only one more practice
session ahead of them prior to
the but fame the .Shelby highs
were today looking forward to*
the contest here Friday with
Forest City for the group
championship In the state base
ball race.
On paper Forest City holds the
edge in the Important game, hav
ing defeated Shelby twice this year,
but Coach Morris has been driving
his team hard this week endeavor
ing to smooth out the rough spots
in the team's defensive play which
contributed considerable to the two
victories by the Rutherford boys.

who has banged out five homers
this year, and his tAmmates will
contribute the additional punch
necessary to keep the Morrismen in
the state race. All this week the
boys on the team have been hear
ing about four teams that preceded
them that, could always measure up
in a pinch and as a result won four
state baseball title's. The psychol
ogical Influence of this talk may
key the youngsters up to the need

Strong Outfit.
There isn't any doubt but what
Forest City has an unusually strong
baseball team. It has all-around
strength-heavy hitting fast field
ing. and steady pitching. Outside
coaches say that the winner of
Friday's game here will go to
Chapel Hill and Forest City Is spur
red up to cop the game and make a
bid for their second state title. Two
previous victories over the Shelby
ties should serve to give them the
proper belief in their ability Friday;
The chief worry they could have ts
that, the law of averages might slip
In to give Shelby one of three
games. f

Chances arc that Coach Morris
will start Peters, the loose

Government Putt
Lid On Bad Town
Hurley, Wis—The government,
clamped down Tuesday on Hurley,
“bad boy" town of the midwest.
Federal authorities swept from
one end to the other of Silver street
sporting rendezvous of lumberjacks
and miners.
They bore 63 warrants naming
saloon operators and bartenders. It
was the second time within a month
an attempt had been made to curb
ebullient spirits of the town some
times described as “Wisconsin’s last
frontier.”
On April 1 owners of 39 establish
ments were served with notices of
injunctlonal proceedings. Evidence
gathered at that time formed the
basis tot today's drive.
