It Pays To Advertise I Just Ten Years Ago • • • • A Peep Or Two Back In 1921 (Items Taken From The Cleveland Star ol mi.) (Taken from The Star of May 31, 1921.) If pin ns mature, Piedmont High school will be converted into a state high school. A mass meeting was called and held at Lawndale Satur day afternoon at which time it was decided to secure enough signers of tax-payers in No. 9 township to formxa new school district, perhaps by merging Lawndale, Palm Tree and Double Shoals districts, the pur pose of which will be to convert Piedmont High school Into a state high school which will be operated by the state for six months each year. Mr. Alex Boyles died Friday night at Lawndale at the age of 70 years following a long illness from paraly sis. Mr. Buck Hardin who has been linotype operator for The Star, for five years or longer has purchased half interest in the transfer busi ness with Mr. Cage Ellis. He severed his connection with The Star Satur day and will devote his entire time to the dray and transfer company. The Daughters of the Confeder acy will meet with Mrs. O. Max Gardner at her home on South Washington street on Friday after noon at 4 o’clock in celebration of Jefferson Davis’ birthday. The most interesting game of base ball ever played in Shelby will be be tween the old baseball stars and the Shelby high school teams Friday at 3:30 o'clock on the Shelhy school ground. Judge E. Y. Webb has been in practice and each afternoon be is found with a bat, a ball and a glove, tuning up. He will pitch the game for the old stars. Other play ers will be Paul Webb, Will Carroll, who-is an old time star still famil iar with every detail of the game. Max Gardner, Josh Lattimorc, Ab Poston, Graham Dellinger, Bloom H. Kendall Cage Ellis and Clarence Leonard.
