The Cleveland Cloth Mill club, Shelby entry In the Western Carolina league, today hangs to top place In the new loop by virtue of two straight victories last week over the Cross mill club of Marion. The Shelby team won by a shut* out here Thursday and then down ed Marlon at Marlon Saturdays to 3. Other Clubs. A meeting of the directors of the league is scheduled to be held to night to consider taking in two more clubs and making it an eight-club circuit. The two new clutw proposed are Forest City-Alexander and Con cord. The hurling of Clinton Fisher, former Asheville pitcher, and the hitting and fielding of Gilreath, flrst-sacker, featured Saturday's victory over Marion. Gilreath smacked out a double and triple. Bradburn, McCall and W. Murray were the stars for Marion. Rules And Regulations Of New Western Carolina League Given Hickory Record, Emphasizing the Importance of every team abiding strictly by the constitution, the new Western Car olina baseball league Monday night adopted a Bet of rules and regu lations covering all problems oi major importance which are expect ed to confront the member teams during the season. The board of di rectors, composed of two represen tatives from each club, will be the governing body of the loop, hold ing meetings on the first and third Monday evening# of each month In Hickory. The complete text of the rules and regulations follow's: 1 That the name of the league shall the the Western Carolina Lea gue. 2 That the principal officers shall be a president and secretary treasurer. That Dick Gutley shall be'the president and the SpOrts Editor of the Dally Record secre tary-treasurer. <a> That the board of director* shall be composed of two represen tatives from each team, that each team shall have one vote and that In case of a tie the president shall cast the deciding ballot. That the following representatives shall be members of the board of directors: D. L. Howard and M A. Boltck. Brookford; Sam Rowe and Joe Er besfleld, Newton; Ralph Bowman and Fred Murphy, Hickory Chair; H V. Overcash and Clarkson Jones, Rhodhlss; Webb Murray and W. Fred Williams, Cross Mill of Mar ion: B. T. Gladden and J. M. Horns by, Cleveland Cloth mill of Shelby. 3. That In case a game is rained out or postponed for any reason, the two teams may arrange when and where to play the game (out of schedule), with the result counting I on the league standing; and that ! the visiting team, provided it mak jes the trip, shall receive hair gate ; receipts of the play-off game. 4. That board meeting be held regularly on the first and third Monday evenings of each month In Hickory, at which time all league questions and disputes will be set tled. i 5. That each team be limited to 120 players for the first three games and sixteen players after the third scheduled game; and that a list of eligible players must be approved by the league officers and kept on file. 6. That If evidence is presented to the directors, and found valid, charging any team with “leading up.” or contriving in any way to win a game by unfair means, the result of the game will be reversed by the directors. 7. That In case a team falls to appear on the field for a game, the game shall be scored 8 to 0 In fa vor of the team that doe* appear and a forfeit of $15 be paid by the losing team. If suitable excuse for the non-appearance of the team can be presented at the following board meeting the money forfeit may be lifted. 10. Each team shall provide one umpire for each game and the two umpires shall call the game inter changeably. Each club shall pay its own umpire and the list of umpires shall be approved by the board of directors at Its first meeting. If an umpire proves unsatisfactory, a pro test may be made to the board of directors, 11. That each team shall post an entrance fee of $25 which shall be used as a forfeit in case the team drops out of the league before the end of the first half of the schedule. The funds thus provided shall be used for the Incidental expenses of the league officials and any remain ing sum at the end of the schedule shall be divided equally among the teams In the league at that time. 12. That the schedule shall start on June l and enc. on August 15. The schedule shall be composed of 10 games for the first half and 10 games for the second half, the lea gue game on the fourth of July to be played In the morning. 13. That the winner of each half of the schedule play a five game series within two weeks after the end of the schedule for the league championship. 14. That this set of rules and reg ulations be adopted ih full for the second half of the schedule. Collegians In New Ball Loop; j Gurley Playing This newly organised Western Carolina semi-pro league. The Ora, Shel by and Lily mills have fast clubs on which are quite a number of well known high school, college and sandlot stars. • • • • TENNIS TOURNEY With several local net stars tak ing part In the recent Mid-Dixie tennis tourney at Spartanburg, there is considerable talk about town of a city championship tour nament here. Putnam Checks Up Another Victory For Ora Outfit Playing at the city park here Saturday the Ora mill baseball club cheeked up another victory behind the fine hurling of Johnny Putnam, defeating the Carlton mills team of Cherry, vide 6 to 4. The all-around play of the entire Ora team featured the contest. Shelby Mill Pounds Out Lop-sided Win Tram Goes On Batting Rampage As Hamrick Shuts Out Kings Mountain, The Shelby mill team defeated Kings Mountain 13 to 0 at the Shelby mill park Saturday after noon. Sherrill Hamrick, on the mound for the victors, hurled a fine game In registering a shutout. He was ac corded fine support In the field and his teammates went on a batting rampage, pounding the ball to all corners of the lot to score their 13 tallies.
