U. held a business meeting Sun-1 day evening, June 14, at which time! the following officers were elected:; Director, Miss Ollle Mae Putnam: president. Miss Jessie Humphries;, vice-president, Mr. Gordon Putnam, recording secretary, Mr. Palmer Glenn; corresponding secretary. Miss Delta Ware; treasurer, Mr. J. D, Ware; chorister, Mr. Esley Barn ett; Organist, Miss Bertie Lee Ham rick; group captains, Miss Elizabeth Putnam, Miss Hattie Mae Hum phries, Mr. Lyman Humphries and Mr. Wilbur Hamrick. Sunday was time for the regular monthly preaching service and our pastor was present and preached a very interesting and' helpful sermon using as his text 2nd Chronicles 29:29. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hum- i phries a fine baby girl, Thursday of last week. Both mother and baby; are getting along nicely. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Esley Bar nett, a fine son, Friday evening, Mrs. Lemons III. Mrs Jane Lemons continues to remain bedfast at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Loyd Hamrick. Mrs,; Lemons is a very old lady and it is not expected that she will ever- be well and strong again. C. Putnam. Miss Alma Belle, a professional nurse of Winston-Salem ts spending a fortnight visiting friends and, relatives in the community. Misses Delta Ware and Mary Sue Belle and Mr. Buford Ware and, Mr. Lyman Humphries visited friends and relatives in Kings; Mountain last week. Mrs. Dennis Hamrick of near Cleveland Springs was a visitor in: the community Sunday afternoon, j Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Spake ol • Elizabeth community were present | at the Sunday afternoon service at the church. They also called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Miller Spake. Little Miss Helen Saunders of Shelby has been spending several days at the home of her uncle, Mr. B. C. Putnam Mr. Clyde Putnam and his uncle. Mr. Cameron Putnam are spending a fortnight in Hot Springs, Ark They motored through the country and were accompanied by Mr. Hatcher Webb of Shelby. Mr. Joe Wright of Chapel Hill was a welcomed guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Miller Spake during the past week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ellis motored to Forest City Tuesday and spent the day. Mr. Gus Parris and son, Glenn, motored to Gaffney, S. C., on busi ness Monday. tt' Mrs. Julius Green was the guest of her daughter Mrs. Evefette Hol lifield Friday. Mrs. Green lives in West Shelby. She was accompanied by Misses Pearl and Marvis Green. Mrs. Sam Turner and Mr. Jim Love were welcomed visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs Baxter Put nam. Mrs. Jim Tesseneer of Beaver Dam but formerly of this commun ity is seriously ill at the Ruther fordton hospital. Her many friends hope for her a speedy recovery’. Mrs. David Hamrick's parents of Gastonia visited her during the past week-end. The B. Y. P. U, honor roll for the month of May is as follows: Mrs. E. J. Crane, Ruby Hamrick, Mr. Fate Warren, Ollie Mae. Putnam, J. D. Ware, Elizabeth Putnam, Gordon Putnam, Marjorie Crane, Palmer Glenn. Mrs. Willie Turner of Shelby was a caller at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Putnam one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Earlie Sarratt spent most of last week in Charlotte. Several bad mad dogs have been killed in the community. No one has been bitten but several have had narrow escapes. We have had several severe thunder storms. No serious dam age was done however. SEABOARD State To Pay Out Over Five Million; Bonds And Interest Stale's Annual Interest Bill Over Seven Millions. To Reduce Bond Debt. (Special to The Star.) Raleigh, June IS.—The state of North Carolina will pay out $5,443, 195 as of July 1. of which $2,112,800 will go toward reducing the state’s bonded Indebtedness and $3,330,595 will go to pay tile usual semi-annual interest on outstanding bonds of the state. State Treasurer Nathan O'Berry stated today. The state's annual interest bill or its present outstanding bonds is ap proximately $7,250,000. the bulk of .which is paid as of January 1 and July 1. A few of the bonds are dat ed so that the interest falls due ii. April and October, about half a million dollars at each time The bond reduction fund includes the retirement of $1,012,600 In hlgh-j way bonds falling due, which comas! from the special highway fund, and’ $100,000 in bonds for permanent improvements at the state’s instl-j tutions. and $1,000,000 in general fund note bonds, which comes from the general fund. The Interest to be -paid Include; $2,451,12250 on the outstanding' highway bonds, which comes from! the highway fund, $528,310 on rms-j cellaneous, state bonds, which comes from the general fund, and $351.162 50 on bonds sold to aid the counties and local districts in erect-' mg school houses, which comes from the units which borrowed this | money. Mr. R L. and Max and Miss Hanna Lou Pruette of Cltffstde and Mr. George Pruette and baby of Spartanburg. S, C., visited at Mr. C. C Pruette's Sunday afternoon. Mrs Archie Robinson and chil dren of Charlotte are visiting her sister. Mrs. Ralph Holland this week Sixty-five of Mr. John Green's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gathered at hts home the day. A large table with many good things to eat was spread in the yard of Mr. Greene's grandson the first Sunday In June and spent ' who lives across the road from Mr.t‘ Greene.
