Foreign Speakers At Centennial Of Building And Loan Hore« Ownership And Systematic Sayings Tor Working Man To Be Discussed. Philadelphia, Aug. 10.—A solution of Europe’s post war economic tan gle by way of homeownership and systematic savings for the working man across the Atlantic will be pre sented for American consideration at the international congress of Building Societies and Building and Loan associations here next week. Leading home financiers from the Old World will address the con gress, which will hold joint sessions with the centennial convention of fhe United States Building and Loan league, August 11-14. A British gov ernment representative will accom pany his countrymen and address the gathering. According to Miss Ann E Rae, Niagara Palls, N. Y., honorary chair man of the League’s Internation Congress committee, the foreign fin anciers attending will include 150 from Great Britain, several from Germany and Poland, a delegate from South Africa, and one or two from Austrlla and New Zealand. Sir Enoch Hill, president and general manager of the world's largest build ing society, the British equivalent of building and loan associations here, will head the delegation from Great Britain. He represents the $331,000,000 Halifax Building Society of Halifax, England. The British government represen tative Is John Fox, assistant regis trar of Friendly Societies in the United Kingdom, who has charge of government supervision of the co-operative home financing organ izations there. Building and loan association in this country have promoted a high er living standard for the past hun dred years by their financial assist ance for home-owners and thetr safe investment medium for the small saver, Miss Rae points out. The United States Building and Loan league will tender an official reception banquet to the foreign delegates Monday evening, August 10. Sir Enoch Hill will be the Brit ish speaker and Americans who will address the banquet Include the Hon. Guy Campbell, Congressman from Pennsylvania, Miss Rae and the Hon. White will represent the North and South Carolina agency of the Equitable Life Assurance so ciety at the southern convention to be held at Grove Park Inn beginning August 10th and lasting through August 15th. Mrs, R. A. Nooe and daughter, Mis® Katherine Nooe, of Statesville, are spending a couple of days with Mrs. J. T. Gardner and Miss Allie Nooe on West Marion street Mrs. Gardner and Miss Nooe will accom pany them to Statesville to spend a week Mr Hill Hudson, of Shelby, and Mr. Keeter of Kings Mountain left Saturday for Baltimore, Md. George and Graham Miller returned home Friday night from Myrtle Beach after spending several days. Mrs, E. M. Sweeay, Mrs. W E. Gantt and children. Miss Clara Sweezy and Mr. Babe Carr spent the day Sunday at Rainbow Lake, near Spartanburg, S.C. , Miss Eudora Dover, who spent the past week here with Miss Mildred Harrell, returned to her home in Rock Hill on Tuesday. Mias Margaret Elam, who works in Washington, D. C., is spending her vacation at home with her mother, Mrs. Orlando Elam. Miss Nelleen Costner, of Atlanta, who has been visiting relatives here recently, will leave this afternoon for Monroe for a visit to friends before returning to her home. Miss Sara Thompson, is spending several days in Salisbury visiting Miss Alma Hedrick. Miss Alma Goode is spending a few days as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Young at their home on West Warren street. Miss Ooode is well known in this county, being the daughter of Mr and Mrs J A Goode of Maiden. Miss Ruth Hopper and Mr Leon Williamson, of Morganton. spent the week-end in Georgia with the letter s parents, Mr. and Mrs H. N. Williamson, of Athens. Miss Julia Williamson returned home with them to spend sometime with Mias Hopper. Mrs. Thelma Smith spent, the week-end in Charlotte as the guest of her sister, Mrs. L, M. H1U and Mr. Hill at the Poplar Apart ments Miss Grace Fades leaves today or tomorrow to visit relatives in Georgia for several weeks. Mrs W J. Harrill has returned from Fort Bragg where he has been for two weeks taking training at the Station Hospital. Mrs. Harrill who has been spending the past twe weeks at Wrlghtsville and Wilming ton, returned home with him. Mrs. Charles Wall and Mr Robert Philpotts, who spent last week visit ing here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Holland, returned to their homes in Lexington on Satur day. They were accompanied home by Mr. Pegram Holland who will spend this week visiting them. Mr. and Mrs. A. F.
