Va., arrived last night to visit her lister, Mrs. Tom Nolan, in Cleveland Springs Estates. Mr W. H. Mills, of Columbia. S C., joined his wife and little son, Billy, here, where they have been visiting Mr and Mrs. R. J. McCarley, and he and Mrs. McCarley have gone to Blowing Rock to spend sev eral days Mr. R. N. Gurley, of Hckory, spent | Wednesday night here at the home! of Mr. and Mrs. Renn Drum and Mrs. Gurley, who has been visiting friends here during the past ten days, returned home with him yes terday. Friends of Mr. Harry Reid who has been critically ill in the Uni versity hospital in Philadelphia re cently, will be glad to learn that he is better and has been moved from the hospital to the home of friends there Mrs D, W. Royster and guest. Miss Elath Buchanan, with Mrs. George Moore, of Charlotte, speyt Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Terry Moore in Forest City. Part of the day was spent on a trip through the nearby mountains. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kee, of Kings Mountain, September 2. a fine son, Jack Rodney. Mrs. Kee before marriage was Miss Harriet Hardin of Earl. Mother and baby are doing nicely. Mrs. W. D. Hardin of Mt. Sinai section is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kee of Kings Mountain. Master Major Lee Hopper is spending the week in Llncolnton the guest of his cousin. Hugh Put nam. Mr H A Walker, of Cleveland and Mrs. J. M. Walker. in the Ohio, is visiting his parents, Mr. county and also his sisters, Mrs. P. L. Hoyle and Mrs Charles Wells and their families. Mrs. T. B. Rowell and son, How ard, of Great Falls, S. C„ have been visiting her relatives, Mr. and Mrs. V. V. Jones, here. They have gone from here to Lincolnton for a visit before returning to their home Mrs. J. L. Lackey and children with their guests, Mrs. W. E. Frost and children, of West Palm Beach, Fla., have been spending a few days this week at Burnsville Mr. and Mrs. John Godwin and two little sons, John Douglas, jr., and Will Donald, of Danville, Ky., visited Mrs. Godwin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Griffin on S. Wash ington street last week. Among the girls who left yester day to enter the fall session of the Appalachian Normal school at Boone were: Misses Sara Hoyle, Elsie and Elizabeth Gidney, Mary Faye Dellinger. Sara Harris, Louise Bailey, and Sara Riviere. Mrs. C. A. Steele and Miss Violet Broom, of Great Falls, S. C., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. V. V. Jones here this week Miss Martha Carroll Fanning and Miss Beth McSwain are spending a few days with the latter’s aunt, Mrs. Roland Hamrick, at Boiling Springs. Friends of Mrs. Robert Woods, who recently underwent an opera tion in the Presbyterian hospital in Charlotte, will be glad to know that slfe is getting along nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Schenck spent several days this week in Charlotte where they went to attend the wed ding of the latter's brother, Mr. Robert H. Masterman, to Miss Frances Las lie which took place there on Wednesday at noon. Mrs. Ralph Mauney, who has been ill and confined to her home on Elizabeth Avenue this week is much better at present. Little Misses Martha and Connne Abernethy, twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Abernethy, of Chrr ryville, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jean Schenck this week. Mrs. Aber nethy spent the day here yester day with them. Mrs. Sam Schenck and little daughter, Ansley, spent several days this week in Asheville visiting Mrs. Guy Hunter at her summer home there, I Mr. and Mrs Paul Chape) of Balm, in the western part of the state, spent Tuesday here with rel atives Mr. Clint Owens of the Zion community was operated on this morning at the Shelby hospital for a stomach trouble from which he has been suffering. Whisnant, of Polk ville, who has been quite ill recent ly and has been confined to the Shelby hospital where she under went a serious operation, Is much better and has been moved to the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Lovelace, and Mr. Lovelace. Mr. and Mrs. Thad Ford and children, Margaret and Edwin, with Mrs. W. ft. Porter and little daugh ter, Mary, of Belwood. spent yester day in Greenville, S C„ visiting! relatives. Miss Ella Mae Maviney has re turned home from Charlotte after a visit to her cousins, Misses Mary and Isabel Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. Evans Shuil took their son, George, to Charlotte yes terday where he will have his ton sils removed at the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat hospital there. Friends of Mrs. A. R. Bennett, of | Greensboro, who has been quite ill will be glad to know that she is better and has been moved to her home at that place. Her infant daughter, Barbara Ann, will re main in the hospital for another month. Second Baptist To Have Baptismal | Services as follows will be held at the Second Baptist church on Sun day: A baptismal service will be held at the morning service at eleven O’clock. Election of church and Sunday school officers will also take place at this service. The pastor. Rev, L, L. Jessup, will preach at 7:30 p. m. using as his topic “How God Calls Men." The Sunday school meets at 9:45 and the B. Y. P. U's at 6:30 p. m.
