What was termed by the trade as the most strength ever made by cotton was given Thursday when all months In the future mar ket opened $10 a bale higher in the first trades on the opening call. Cleveland county and Shelby, as usual, will be well represented at the various institutions of learning this year, and we are duly proud of the fact that the Shelby High school is able to send out Into a larger field as many promising men and women. The list for this year is a* follows: Misses Dorothy McBrayer to Mere dith; Rosalynd Nix, Matilda Latti more to North Carolina College for Women; Elizabeth Buttle and Han nah Washburn, Coker college; Janie Blanton, Margaret Wellmon and Margaret Morgan to Queens college, Charlotte; Thelma Young to Greens boro college for Women; Miriam Me Brayer to Florida State college, Fla.; Adeline Bostic to Converse college, Spartanburg, S. C. Aaron Quinn, Robert Hord, Clyde Hoey jr., Char les Hoey, Clyde McCurry to N. C. College at Raleigh; Frank Kendall to Trinity and William Osborne to ■he University at Chapel Hill; Oren and Hubbard Hamrick to Wake Forest A marriage interesting s large ’ircle of friends ofr both the bride and groom throughout the county is that of Miss Gladys Weaver, one of Shelby’s prettiest and most popu lar young girls and Mr. Cleatus S. Hord of Lawndale, which happy event took place Friday evening at the home of the bride's father, Mr. J. A. Weaver of East Marion street, at 7 o'clock. A crowd that would fill the church building two or three times, gath ered Wednesday for the first day's session of the Kings Mountain Bap tist association which is meeting this week for three days at Bethle hem church. 'From Issue of The Star September 13, 1921) With the known list of dead stand ing at 40 this afternoon, police of'* ficials still believe an estimate of 250 lives lost as a result of the dis astrous flood which struck San An tonio, Tex., early Saturday morning to be a conservative one. No attempt has been made to estimate the prop erty damage, but it is certain to run into millions of dollars. A wedding of much interest to the of Mrs. Gertrude Goode-Rhyne and parties in Cleveland county was that many friends of the contracting ber September 4th at the Baptist Mr. B. European Act Will Entertain At Country Fair Among a number of specially' imported European arts last year probably none found great er favor with American aud iences than the SU Daviltaa, a troupe, comprising two beauti ful girls and four agile chaps. The sheer adacity of their som ersaulting which represent the limit in sensational teeter board acrobatics, was greeted at every performance with gales of applause. And well do they deserve it, for this amus ing troupe do not depend on the old cut and dried ‘routine of monotonous acrobatics, but have originated a series of hair raising feats that will probably in time be copied all over the world. But it is not only their tricks that count, but the man ner In which they present them, that nonchalant air of easy grace and confidence that is only attained after years of arduous training. The Six Davtllas have been engaged to appear at the Cleve land county fair this year, where their splendid act will be onr of the features to entertain the crowds In the grandstand.
