Visitors are strangers but once Salem Girl* Will Smoke At College | Requirements Laid Down At Salem Satisfactory To Parents And Students, Winston-Salem, Nov. 20— During the Salem College chapel services Wednesday, especial consideration was given to the ruling adopted by the board of trustees last summer and by the student self government council and faculty advisory com mittee in September with regard to the forbidding of smoking on the college campus and in public places. Under the rules as adopted student could smoke if their parents were willing and if the smoking wa done in rooms provided for the pur pose. President Rondthaler stated now that more than two months’ trial had been given to the plan it was fair to read to the students editor ials and other expressions of public opinion and (omitting namesi ki lters received from parents and alumnae. Dr. Rondthaler read the only four letters registering opposition to the plan, but he could not possibly read all of the very many parental aru alumnae letters favoring the plan as they were overwhelmingly num erous and amongst the alumnae in cluded graduates of all ages front quite recent ones to others who reached back to the days of th Civil War.
