Here’s A Message To Shelby Boxers Sporting Editor, Cleveland Star. Shelby, N. C Dear Sir: I will appreciate jour kindness if you will hand this letter to your lo cal boxing promoter if you have one in'Shelby. I am not so sure that your town has been having boxing matches and if there are some be ing staged I would like to know as I have inquiries from a number of our local fighters here as well as local promoters who are interested in staging a bout there If they can make arrangements satisfying the city authorities arid are able to ob tain a suitable hall for the occa sion. If you have a local promoter the ring Idols of Gastonia would like to get in touch with him in order to appear on the card in Shelby against your fighters. For instance Don Sellers, who is to fight for the j county championship in the junior J light-heavyweight class here Fri day night would like to be paired with Tom McCarver of Shelby and Ike Clifton local welterweight, j would like to meet Babe Carr if ar- j rangements can be made, provided i FREE A Heavy Red Tube With Each Tire Sold During December ELIMINATE HOAD HAZARDS BY BIDING ON STERCHl’S BONDED TIRES A Complete* Stool- on Hand At All Times. \ isii On*- Wall Paper and Paint Department bouts art- be inn staged there. I promised the boys I would find out about this matter and inform them to see if , *yom promoters would include them in some future matches and I also promised our local promoter I would inquire if you have an active promoter there and if not whether your fans would want Sbmeone to come up and look the field over with the view of stag ing a few cards. Of course the first question is whether the authorities will permit fights in Shelby? The Gastonia promoters have voiced their intention of staging a card, if arrangements can be made in Shelby, the proceeds of which will be equally divided between promoters and your city welfare de partment for the aid of charity. Probably this could be worked out before Christmas. I shall be pleased to hear from you. If you know/ Babe Carr and Tom McCarver, or any other fight ers there I will also appreciate your mentioning to them that J. T Har rell, care the Gazette, would like to hear from them in regard to getting them on the cards here, which are going good at this time Respectfully yours GUY WHITE. The Gastonia Gazette. Tech high Is one at the two teams that defeated Charlotte, Western North Carolina champions this year: Gaffney high, with two or tliree more Clarys on the squad, hasn’t been licked in several years. Charlotte would not play Gaffney and then Gaffney challenged the Atlanta eleven, conqueror of Char lotte for a game. Many Shelby fans, craving one more glimpse of football for this year, are planning to take in the contest ^omr Ball Toting.
