C Camp delivered a very interesting) sermon at the Grove on last Sun day. His text was Luke 21-29. The budget that was gotten up recently by the board of deacons was brought before the church on Sunday, but was voted down by the church. Mr. and Mrs. DeVaughn Boyles announced the arrival of a big boy recently, Paris DeVaughn, jr. The Woman's Missionary society of the Grove met on last Saturday at the church just before preach ing services. Mrs. S. H. Sain who is suffering with throat trouble Is,' improving some at this writing. We are sorry to note that Mr. J. R. Hoyle is very feeble at this writ ing. s Rev. W. G. Camp from Cherryvllle was a dinner guest Sunday of Mr and Mrs. S. A. Sain. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Propst visit ed at the home of Mr, and Mrs J. W. Alwran Sunday. Mrs. Alwran is improving at this writing. Mrs. Florence Sain and little son of Vale are spending some time with her sister Mrs. C. G. Boyles and Mr. Boyles. Mr. L. M. Williams spent some time the past week with his son, Dr. George Williams of Valdese. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Huffman, Mr, Joe Costner and Miss Nora Costner attended the funeral services of Mrs. Billy Reynolds at St, John on last Wednesday. She had been suf fering for some time with cancer of the liver. She was 72 years of age. Mrs. 8. T. Carpenter and Miss Ima Carpenter spent last Wednes day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Burns. Misses Margaret and Roberta Harrill of Shelby spent the week end with their grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Jim Connor. Mr. Lowden Alwran from Rocky Mount spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Alwran. Attempt To Rob Bank In S. C. Unsuccessful Bethune, S. C., Jan. 21.—Dawn apparently baited bank robbers attempts here yesterday to force the safe of the Merchants and Fanners bank at Bethune. The outer door of the safe, which contained approximately $7,000, had been cut open and the Inner screen door had holes drilled in it when bank employes came to work. The big fish was caught In the gulf stream off Miami by a fish ing party headed by Captain Tom my Gifford. Fisherman said they knew of but three recorded catch er of whale-shark in South Florida waters. None were mounted but this one will be, its captors said, at a cost of approximately $2,000. The bu reau of fisheries at Washington and American Museum of Natural His tory at New York were notified of the catch brought in here. Scientifically, the fish is known as Rhinedon-Typhus. It has a slate body with white spots and authori ties say it is the only variety with a mouth big enough to swallow a man at one gulp.
