Funeral Tuesday The double funeral service, at tended bv a large throng, wss held at El Bethel church Tuesday after noon at 3 o'clock. The services were conducted by Dr. Zeno Wall, of Shelby, and Dr Justice, of Kings Mountain. Mrs. Newton, who was 37 years ot age, was Miss Lois Mae Peterson daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Pet erson, prior to her marriage. Hei parents and those of her husband Mr. and Mrs. Andy Newton, arc among the county’s best known and most highly respected families. Mrs Newton is survived by her husband her parents: three brothers—Robt. John and Albert; and two sisters— Nellie and Ruby. The Newton home, which wa the home place and owned by Fred Newton's father, Register Andy Newton, was a six-room structure one story tn height. Elliott will be 87, on the 12th of July and is the last survivor of the H, F. Schenck Co F. 56 regiment of HO men, Thomas Goode Phllbci k the last survivor of the Capt, W. S. Corbitt Co., of 5th and 49t.h regiment, aged 87 next November and Squire Falls of Shelby of Capt. Janies Wells, 17 year boys, aged 35, Char les B Lattimore as a 16-year boy, now 83 did gallant, service fighting outlaws in the South Mountains and Chancey Grigg. 83 who barely missed the war. All were hearty and happy, clear of debt and never had failed to pay their taxes. All had plenty to eat, but not so much money. Chancey Grigg admitted that he had regis tered U. 8. bonds that pay him in terest twice a year, but saw no in come from the farm in sight. All thought a Democratic president, even if he was a little wet might bring some relief or not fool us as bad as Hoover has, promising so much and doing nothing. We thought we had better try to support ourselves than to depend on the government, that, is entirely dependent on its thrifty people to support It. Charley Whisnant, father of Nixon on adjoining farm is a model farmer who has always raised his feed and food at, home. This year he expects 125 bushels of wheat from five acres on cotton stalk land. All the fertilizer used was 300 pounds of sulphate of ammonia on the five acres. He had 12 acres of as fine oats. He has run a dairy for 25 years and makes and spreads lots of manure. He has bought high priced land and paid cash for it.
