Dec. 29—The New York Central railroad today report ed net operating Income for Nov ember was $1,665,356 about 65 per cent above the $669,817 figure for the same month in 1931. Net oper ating income was increased for three months, despite reductions in gross revenues. Indiana Will Cut Its Tax Bill 42 Million Indianapolis, Dec. 29.—Indiana’s tax bill for 1933 will be reduced $42,000,000 by the new law limiting the rate to $1.80 a hundred, except In emergencies. No matter what the local rate Is, the state's share Is fixed at 15 cents on each dollar, or a total of about $7,500,000. Auten wTio suffered a severe attack in the head just be fore the holidays, is now in the Shelby hospital where she is rest ing some better. Mr .and Mrs. R. G. Mr. Peeler serves two Methodist Pro testant churches in the Enfield sec tion and is taking a special course at Duke university. Grover Section Events Of Week School Starting Postponed. Christ- - mas Programs At Churches Rooms Added. (Special to The Star.) Grover, Dec. 29.—The students of Grover school were disappointed by the school not starting Wednesday, Dec. 28. Some lew had not heard It and went to the building, but were content to go back and enjoy few more holidays, hoping the sun will shine between now' and Mon day, so the trucks can bring in those too far away to walk to school. Mr. William Bird of Virginia vis ited his brother. Prof. B. F. Bird, and sister. Mrs. E. D. Randall, dur ing the holidays. Mrs. J. C«. Westmoreland spent Sunday night with her son, Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Westmoreland of Blacks ! burg. Little Tommie Beam, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Beam is sick with flu. Both churches. Baptist and Pres byterians, had Christmas programs Friday, Dec. 23 at 3 o'clock and the children enjoyed a nice treat. The Work of remodeling and building an addition to the Baptist church is not yet completed but a number of the class rooms were ready for use Sunday and although the weather was unfavorable there was a fairly good attendance and all were delighted to be in their own class rooms. Miss Marjorie Bird is spending the week with relatives in Gaffney. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Sheppard and children spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Randall. Mrs. J. G.
