The Vallee jar.t makers give a concert from 8:30 to 9 Friday evening in the Charlotte Armory-Auditorium and the concert will be followed by dancing until 1:30 Saturday morn ing. A number of Shelby people will likely attend, Ruth Class Meeting On Monday Night The Ruth class of the First Bap tist church. of which Mrs. B. T. Falls is teacher, met on Monday evening at the home of Miss Joyce Wilson with Mrs. Leroy Ledford as Joint hostess The meeting was called to order by the president Mrs. James Henderson. After the devotional Miss Nita Benton gave an entertaining reading and Mrs. Henderson read a Valentine story. Valentine games and contests were enjoyed during the social hour and afterward a delicious sweet course was served. The Valentine idea was attractively carried onl on the refreshment plates. Of C. Meeting Monday Evening Members of the local chapter of the Children of the Confederacy were entertained at an interesting meeting on Monday evening at the home of Misses Lots and Katherine Buiee wtth Miss Cornelia Sparks as sisting them as hostess. The meet ing was opened with the singing of The Star Spangled Banner and a prayer. Miss Dovie, Logan read a paper on Abraham Lincoln, which was followed by a duct. Praise Him With Melody, sung by Misses Mary Lillian Speck and Frances Auten with Miss Margaret Corbett at the piano. Miss Constance Dellinger closed the program with an inter esting paper on George Washing ton * During the social half hour dr ■ licious refreshments were served Business Women Meet Monday Evening The Business Womens Circle el Central Methodist church held its February meeting Monday evening at the church with Misses Charlotte and Sadie Beverly and Elisabeth Riviere as hostesses. The chairman, Miss Carobcl Lever, held the devotional and Mrs W J Jones had charge of the program which consisted of short readings by each member of the circle about Scarritt college for Girls in Nash ville, Tenn. At the close of the pro gram Mrs. John Lovelace sang a song, the words and music being written by a pupil of Scarritt col lege. Meeting Held Yesterday An interesting meeting id the lo cal chapter of the United Daugh ters of the Confederacy was held yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. A Logan on N. Morgan street when Mrs. Logan. Mrs. W. H Jennings. Mrs. Roscoe Lutz, Mrs. Ogburn Lutz, Mrs. E. B. Lattimore. Mrs. J. L. LacKey, Mrs. H. M. Loy, and Mrs, T. C. LovjSace were joint hostesses, with Mrs. Lattimore as chairman of the committee. Mrs. R. T, LeGrand was in charge of the program. Mrs Mary E. Yar brough read an interesting paper on Lee and Jackson: Miss Carobel Lever gave an entertaining sketch of the Life of Sidney Lanier and read the poem. Out of The Woods My Master Came. Mrs. LeGrand closed the program with a paper on J. E. B Stewart. Plav Lees McRae. Coach Paul Hutchins’ speedy Bull mg Springs college cage team won another game last night, defeating Rutherford college at Boiling Springs by the score of 51-36. The Hutchins outfit grabbed a lead early in the contest and as a result the Boiling Springs coach used every one of his subs, including some who had never before played in a varsity game Leonard led the scoring with 16 points while Capt Mauney was second with 10, and Camnitz third with eight. Girls Win Another Game WTiile Boys Lost To Gastonia Quint. Shelby's sextet of shooting stars continued its winning streak Tues day night by defeating the Gastonia high school girl cagers 26 to 20 in a game played at Gastonia. While the Shelby sextet was win ning its game the Shelby boys were taking one on the chin from the Gastonia five by the score of 33 to 13. The Shelby boys failed to score ar field goal in the second half. Leary with 12 points led the scoring for Gastonia while Connor with six points set the pace for Shelby. In winning their second game of the seasin over the Gastonia girls the Shelby team maintained its un varnished record for the entire sea son. Their play against Gastonia however, was somewhat below their normal speed, but all cage teams have their slumps and a team that can keep on winning does well to win despite occasional slumps.
