Tedder and family spent the day In Charlotte on Friday. John Lineberger of Charlotte spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Line berger. Miss Mary Ella Lewis, of Spar tanburg, S. C., and J. C. Cunning ham, of Greenville, 8. C.. were din ner guests of Miss Fannie Burke at her home on Martin street yester day. Max Washburn and Nelson Mau ney left this morning for Golds boro to attend a hardware dealers' convention. Albert Suttle, Pegram Holland, Arthur McGlnty, T. C. Btamey and Thad Yelton have gone to Mars Hill college to attend summer school. Judge and Mrs. B. T, Falls and their daughters Miss Sara Louise. Virginia and Elisabeth plan to leave Wednesday for Wynnewood. Okla, for a visit to Mrs. Falls' brother, Mr. Reid Eskridge. and Mrs. Eskridge. Mrs. Will King and two daugh ters, Misses Alice Goode and Marie, will return home this afternoon from Greensboro where they have been spending the week-end at tending the commencement exer cises at the Woman's college where Miss Dorothy King graduates this year. The latter will accompany them home this afternoon to spend the summer here with her family. Mr. King and Mrs. Alice Linebei tcr spent the day yesterday with the rest of the family in Greens joro. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Carroll are moving this week from an apartment at the home of Mrs. P. L. Hennessa into the Weaver house on E. Warren street. Friends of Mrs. Q. M. Ledford will be glad to know that she Is holding her own at the Shelby hos pital where she has been a patient since suffering a stroke three weeks ago. Miss Jacqueline Huskey, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Huskey of Grover street, is confined to her home with an attack of measles. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Eskridge had a; guests yesterday afternoon the latter's nephew, Mr. Wilburn Boe tic, with Mrs. Bc*tic and their two daughters, and Mr. Williams, all of Asheville. Miss Katherine Howard, of At lanta, Ga,, is a guest at the home of Mrs. Ellen B. Switzer this week. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Loy. Miss Mary Ward Loy, Bill Loy, and Mrs. J. T. Bowman left this morning by automobile for Chicago where thev will visit the Word's fair. They will be away about ten days. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hamrick are entertaining members of the coun ty board of commissioners at din ner today at their home on N. La Fayette street. Members of the board are: Messrs. Joe E. Blanton, J. L. Herndon and J. D. Morris. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Hill of Char lotte spent the week-end here with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Major Hopper, and were accompan ied back to Che-.!■•}!te by Mies Ruth Hopper who will be their guest for several days. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Hoey, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Rybum leave tomorrow morning for Peabody university in Tennessee where Mr. Hoey will de liver the literary address before the graduating class on Wednesday afternoon. Little Miss Lucy McCraw Of Gaff ney is spending several days here visiting her cousin, little Miss Betty Beam. Mrs. John Hudson and children, Martha Lee and Jack, spent the week-end in Brevard with the for mer’s parents. Mrs. Annie Beam Funderburk and little daughter, of Chapel Hill, will sail from New York for France on June 9 where Mrs. Funderburk will study French at the University of Paris for three months. Mrs. Fun derburk is a native of Shelby, be ing a daughter of Mr. D. Augustus Beam of this place. Mrs. Easdale Blanton and Miss Ruby McDonald are leaving tomor row for Boone to attend the summer school there. Mrs. Ed McCurry and guest, Mrs. Frank Colwell, of Clinton attended the wedding of Miss Louise Bealle in Gastonia on Saturday afternoon In which Mrs. Colwell played the wedding music. Mr, and Mrs. Roy Newman will go to Durham on Wednesday to at tend the graduation of the latter's brother, William Eaker, at Duke university. They will be accompan ied home Wednesday night by Mr. Eaker and Louis Roberts who la a student at the Medical college of the University. Riley McCord, student at Clem son college, 6. Eskridge, James Eskridge and Alfred Eskridge have returned home from Decatur, Ga, where they went last week to at tend the graduation exercises of Mias Martha Eskridge who wAs graduated from Agnes Scott college. Miss Eskridge returned home With them and will spend the summer here with her mother. J. P. Smith.
