High School Gives Pageant To Show MeaningOfThanks Pupil* Take Part In Play and Pro gram: Contribute to The School* Fund*. An Interesting Thanksgiving pro gram was presented at the high chool assembly on Wednesday morning by Mrs. McKinney's 10 A home room group. The stage was e'ecorated for the occasion with various kinds of fruit and grain. The following program was pre sented: Devotional, pageant, "Mean mg of Thanksgiving.” and a one act play* "Thanksgiving at Swallow Lodge.” Harvest Home. Wallace, a former resident of Grover, now of Gastonia, introduc ed several prominent workers who responded with fitting short speeches. All seemed to appreciate the warm welcome given them and the bountiful supper that was serv ed. Will Receive $3,200. ^Lincoln County News.) Eighty-two wheat farmers In Lin coin county who have signed wheat acreage reduction contracts with the federal government, are expect, ed to receive their checks fom the government within the next few weeks for the amount of wheat which they contracted to take out of production next year, according to a statement made by County Agent Graham Morrison this week, who has charge of the campaign in Lincoln to reduce wheat acreage next year. Mr. Morrison stated that several cmmties ln the state had already received their checks but that the large number of contracts signed made It impossible for all counties to receive checks at the same time Lincoln farmers will receive in the neighborhood of $3,200 or fif ty-four percent of the estimated crop of 30,000 bushels. Newspaper Lauds Carolina School Progress New York, Dec. 1.—Under the cnption “The Carolina Plan" the New York American published an editorial lauding North Carolina’s system of public education. “North Carolina, the only state in the un ion which guarantees an eight months' school term for every child in its borders, may be the outstand ing bright spot in an otherwise dark year for public education in the United States,” says the edi torial.
