Smith. y All members are cordially Invited ■ to attend. {Jacqueline Fair Smith ; Celebrates 10th Birthday (Special to The Star ) Jacqueline Smith, little daughter ‘of Mrs. Thelma Hopper Smith, j celebrated her tenth birthday anni versary on Saturday afternoon, j from 5:30 to 7:30 with a pretty par ty at the home of her grandpar ents. Mr. and Mrs. Major Hopper, on N. LaFayette street. About 40 of her friends were present. The little hostess was lovely in a long blue organdy dress, with pink slippers and accesseroles. The chil dren were entertained with games land contests, played in the yard un der the direction of the hostess' mother and her aunt. Miss Ruth Hopper. Those winning prizes were Phyllis Yates, 8arah Mull arid At the close of the games the chil dren were Invited into the dining room where the pretty birthday cake, decorated with 10 pink, light ed candles, centered the table. Here delicious strawberry Ice cream, cakes, candy and fruit punch were served. The children then visited the fish ponds where each child fished for a souvenir of the party. Cecelia Club To Lincolnton Members of the Cecelia Music club and the Lincolnton music club met on Saturday' afternoon at the annual get-together meeting at the home of Mrs. M. L. Iris and other spring flowers were used as decorations for the home, and the color note of orchid and green was carried out In the elabor ate refreshment course served. Eighteen members of the Cecelia club were present and the follow ing program was presented: Dou ble quartets, "Indian Dawn" and "Lassie of Mine" by Mrs. Grady i Lovelace, Mrs. John Lovelace, Mrs. L. P. Holland, Mrs. George Hoyle, Mrs. Rush Thompson, Mrs. B. M. Jarrett, Mrs. W. B. Nix and Mrs. Dale Kalter; piano aolos. "Gondola” and “Hungarian," by Miss Esther Anne Quinn, guest performer; two choruses, "The Years At the Spring" and “Glow Worm ' by the entire club; vocal solo, "My Heart Ever Faithful," by Mrs. Kalter; a trio, Kreisler's "Cradle Song" by Mrs. Ben Suttle, Mrs. B. M Jarrett and Miss Bertha Bostic; violin solos, "Melodic Du Coeur" and "Perpetual Motion,” by Mrs. Dwight Houser; vocal solo, "Nn Sosplro • Concerto Etude" by Miss MRry Halen Latti more and a chorus, “Swing Along" by the entire club. Miss Lattimore acted as piano accompanist for all the numbers. Junior-Senior Banquet On Friday Evening Members of the Junior class at Shelby high school entertained members of the senior class and the faculty on Friday evening at the church, which was elaborately dec orated in keeping with the theme of the party, “Launching the Senior) Ship of Dreams." Three long tables were arranged banquet style with covers laid for 165 guests. A ship model centered each table, and lighted candles and bowls of mixed flowers further dec orated the tables. Large bowls and baskets of welgelia, azalea, and iris were placed about the room. Stream ers of colorful pennants and ship's flags were draped across the room above the tables. Mrs. Troy McKinney, English teacher in the high school and jun ior class sponsor, assisted the class in planning the party and in enter taining. A three course dinner was. served by a group of girls sleeted from the sophomore class. These girls, dress ed In white sailor-maid costumes, were: Eleanor Hoey. captain of the group. Owyn Davis. Marjorie Lutz. Ruth Byers. Louise Whitener. (Jer maine Gold, Annabeth Jones, Eliza beth Harris, Alphonsine Harris. Jana Washburn, P&ntha Weathers. Ottie White, Frances Bess, Juan ita Eskridge, Jeannette Post, Louise Brown and Gladys Bland. Three girls cf this group, Eleanor Hoey, Ruth Byers and Louise Whitener also have had the honor of being elected 1 to oerve as commencement mar shals. The following program was pre sented: The entire group sang "Nancy Lee"; Oaynelle Duncan, a junior, made a speech of welcome; Marion Bass, also a junior, gave a roast to the school, response to which was made by Walter Aber nethy, high school principal. Clyde Williams, junior class president, gave a toast to the seniors and Paul Bulllngton, senior president, responded. Hill Hudson, a Junior, gave a toast to the faculty and re sponse was made by Miss Ethel Thomas, senior advisor. Members of the Junior class sang a song to the seniors; the song was composed by Marylin Smith. Will Arey, Jr., gave the toast to the school board, re sponse to which was made by Thad Ford, as representative of the board. Elite McKinney, a junior, en tertained with a reading, “Lily Wat ers Buys Insurance,” and a double quartet, "Sweet • and Low,” was sung by a group of Juniors. The program was concluded with the singing of the school song by the entire group. Favors were presented to the guests, and music was fur nished during the evening by Jean ette Post and Ottie White. Beautiful Wedding Friday Evening A wedding of unusual beauty was colemnlzed here on Friday evening at 6 o'clock when Miss Abble Jane Wall and John Oliver Harris were united in marriage at the home of the bride’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. Zeno Wall, on W. Marion street. The beautiful and Impressive ring ceremony was used, with the Rev. Dr. Wall performing the ceremony in the presence of a small gathering of friends and relatives. The mar riage took place on the 23rd wed ding waniversary of the bride's par ents. The home was lavishly decorated throughout with mixed blossoms; iris, wlegella and spirea were used iii the sun room and hall; in the dining room white carnations and narcissus were used as a table cen terpiece beneath a shower of silver wedding bells from the chandelier. In the living room an altar of ferns was arranged before the mantle, which was banked with fern and white narcissus. Branched candle bra holding cathedral candles stood on each side of the altar and at the foot of the stairway down which the bridal party came; the candel abra were showered with white rib bon and narcissus. The stair rail was twined with jasmine vines. A program of nuptial music was furnished by Miss Helen Harris of Anderson, 8. C., sister of the bride groom, and Miss Mary Virginia Lef ler, as pianists, and Woodrow Wall, brother of the bride, and Horaqp F.asom as soloists. Mr. Wall sang "AH For You,” and Mr. Easom sang "At Dawning.” Miss Harris played "The Bridal Chorus” from Lohen grin as the processional. Prior to the entrance of the wed ding party Miss Hazel West of Mar shall. cousin of the bride, and James Eskridge entered and lighted the candles. Miss Ada Ramsey Wall, acting as her sister s maid of honor and only attendant, descended the staliway and entered the ceremony room alone. The bride was met at the foot of the stairway by her brother, Zeno Wall, jr., who gave her in marriage. They were met at the altar by the groom, accompanied by his best man, Jim Shepard. The maid of honor wore a floor-length dress of blue organdy and carried a colonial bouquet of sweet peas and roses. The bride, a pretty blonde, was lovely in her wedding gown of white lace, made with train and long, fit ted sleeves. She wore a tulle veil, fitted to her head cap-fashion, and carried a shower bouquet of white roses, lilies, snapdragons and sweet peas. Following the wedding the guests were entertained at an informal reception. Ice cream, cake and mints were served by Mrs. Roscoe Lutz. Mrs. Hill Hudson, Miss Ruth Laughridge, Miss Elizabeth Oilmer, Miss Hazel Blanton, Mrs. Hubert Wilson, Mrs. Jim Shepard and Miss Kate Webb. Mrs. M. A. Spangler ana Mrs. Horace Easom received the guests when they arrived and as sisted in entertaining and serving. After the reception Mr. and Mrs. Harris left for a short wedding trip. The bride, eldest daughter of Dr. popular member of Shelby ’s young social set. She received her education at Coker college, Hartsville, and Limestone college, Gaffney, 8. C. 3he and the bridegroom were both graduated from 8helby high school n the class of ’33. Mr. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. FTank Harris, jr., of Anderson, S. C., las made his home in Shelby with nis grandparents, Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Prank Haris, for a number of /ears. For several years he has held i position with the Luts-Austell Fu neral home.
