Gardner celebrated his ninth birthday last Wednesday aft ernoon with a delightful party at his home in Belvedere Heights. Twenty-five guests were present. When the guests arrived they were Invited Into the dining room where a sweet course w%s served. Later they were taken into the woods near the home, where a number of little rubber balls had been hidden and a hunt for these was enjoyed. The children kept the balls they found as favors. Mrs. Gardner was assisted in en tertaining by her two sisters, Mrs. Herman Eskridge of Durham and Mrs. Robert Liner of Canton and by Mrs. D. H. Harris. May 8.—A resolu tion favoring the slaughter of all cattle affected with tuberculosis and Bang'* disease as a means of con trolling production of milk products rather than through a processing tax, was adopted at a joint meeting of the executive committees of the state granges of North Carolina and South Carolina in Columbia. S. C., Friday, it is announced here by W. O. Yeager, Rowan county farm agent and a member of the North Carolina committee. A federal appropriation is recom mended for payment for the cattle. The resolution is being wired to Henry 'Wallace, secretary of agricul ture, to representatives in the house and senate, and to the chief of the dairy division in Washington.
