Smith presented to twelve high school girls certificates of recogni tion by the American Red Cross for having successfully completed a Red Cross course in "Home Hygiene and Care of the Blck." Their names follow: Alice Gywn Davis, Jane Wash burn, Ruth Byers, Maurlne Broyles Davis, Elisabeth Smart, Mary Mar 'garet Mull, Margaret Ruth Hoyle, | Mary Grace Goforth, Ruby Mor gan, Marguerite Jennelle Lipscomb, j Marjorie Elisabeth Luts, Elisabeth Marguerite Wall. i The course was given by Miss Irene Covington, former Red Cross nurse for Cleveland county. The girls are members of Mrs. Robert Hord's home eoonomics olassee. The class was commended for having voluntarily put forth the i effort to attend the class outside school hours, met the requirements, and passed the examination. It Is retarded as a fine manifestation of concern about personal health and of desire to serve the members of their families in the prevention of sickness and in the care of the sick. Chapter headings of the manual used give some Indication of the nature of the course. They follow: Heredity, Health and Health Hab its, Mental Health, Childrens Dis eases. Public Health Organisations, The Common Cold, Prevention of Disease, The Care of a Sick Pa tient, Contents of a Medicine Cab inet. What to do In the Case of Emergencies. All the girls feel that the oourse was highly beneficial. Some of them liked It so well that they have de cided to make nursing a life work. I Mayor to Attend : Raleigh Meeting Of City Officials Municipal League Will Honor En tire Legislature At Gigantic Banquet. Mayor 8. A. McMurry expects to attend the meeting of the North Carolina league of Municipalities in Raleigh Jan. 23 at which some 250 , city officials will map out a state j wide municipal legislative program. I They will also honor the members of the general assembly at a huge banquet. Mayor McMurry is a member of the executive board of the league. The officials meeting will repre sent the 97 members of the North Carolina League of Municipalities, sponsors of the one-day convention, | which will be culminated by a ban quet in honor of the legislature, j 400 WUI Attend. Tew times, If any, in North Caro lina's history have members of the general assembly been honored In one group at a banquet. More than 400 legislators, state and city offic ials are expected to attend the ban quet, to be held at the Hotel Sir Walter, scene of the meeting. A number of prominent speakers, well versed in problems of munici pal management, have been secured by the league to address the con vention. Legislative Platform. A legislative platform for the lea gue was drawn up last week by its Igglslatlve committee and will be submitted to the convention for ratification. Outstanding in the league’s legis lative program will be a proposal calling for municipal sharing in state-collected gas revenue for use on city streets. Membership Has Grown. When the league held its last convention In April of last year, its entire membership was less than 35. Announce Services At Eastside Church The Rev. R. P. Hamby, pastor of the Eastside church, hea announc ed the following service* for Sun day: 8unday school at 9:45, morning worship at 11 o’clock, "A Pair Bride and a Foreign Missionary"; training unions meet at 6:15, and "Jesus as an Evangelist” will be the subject for the evening service. Sill will conduct the regular morning services at the Episcopal chureh of the Redeemer here Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. The morning service will be follow ed by Holy Communion.
