The acute forrn, as the name Im plies, develops quickly, and most commonly is due to eating some food to which the individual is sensi tive. Treatment consists in ridding the gastrointestinal tract of the of fending food by means of an emetic and a cathartic. Beef tea, rice, or oatmeal form the principal food for the two days fol lowing the attack. To these, how ever. may be added salt, sugar, gel atin, kidney beans, bacon, spinach and lentils. If the swellings itch, some meas ure of rebel may be gained by sponging the affected ports with a lour per cent solution of bicarbon ate of soda. The solution should be as hot as one can stand It. Alter sponging, one may apply talcum powder to the skin which is left moist. Calamine lotion Is also useful in overcoming the itching sensation. If the hives are widespread and the iffching affects the body as a whole, relief may be gained from warm alkaline baths. These are made by adding a cup of bicarbonate of soda to a bathful of water. 58 Cara Recovered RALEIGH.—Eighty-seven automo biles were stolen In the state dur ing September and 58 cars were re covered, the state automobile theft I bureau has reported.
