Thirteen Winners in 17 categories in the Shallotte Junior Woman's Club Student Arts Festival will advance to district competition to he held at Shallotte Middle School on March 2. The festival, held Saturday at West Brunswick High School, featured 165 entries from students attending Shallotte Middle, Waccamaw Elementary and West Brunswick High schools. Judges were Rusty Hughes, Bubbi Hughes, Virginia I.auzon, David Clegg, Sheila McLamb and Dean Carroll. In addition to arts festival winners, the club also announced Saturday its nominees for the Sallie Southall Cotton Scholarship awarded each year by the N.C. Federation of Women's Clubs. West Brunswick High School senior Keith L. Stanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Stanley of Shallotte, will receive $350 from the Shallotte Junior Woman's Club and the opportunity to compete at i'ne district level. The district winner will receive a $100 scholarship and the right to compete for the $8,000, 4-year federation scholarship. Stanley ranks in the top 5 percent of his senior class academically and was selected through personal interviews. He plans to attend N.C. Slate University. West Brunswick sophomore Keith White claimed blue ribbons in wood crafts, ceramics, paper crafts and (grades 10-11) painting, and also third place in painting.
