Diana (."lark Smith, assistant principal

participate in the 30th Annual International
Rending Association's national
convention May 5-9 in New
Orleans, Ixniisianu.
Ms. Smith will be a member of the
special interest group on "Teaching
and Writing Through Poetry and
Music." She will join more than
13,000 persons who are expected to
attend the convention that include 450
sessions. symposiu und workshops
related to reading instruction.

The Calabash I>odge was instituted
in February 1984 and has since
become one of the most active lodges
in the state.
Its youth program includes a Hoop
Shoot for youngsters from North
Myrtle Beach, S.C., and southern
Brunswick County and sponsorship
of boys to attend summer camp. The
club's veterans committee makes
numerous visits to the Veterans Administration
Hospital in Fayetteville
and donated a color television set,
clothes and stamps. The lodge also
participates in the Grand Ixxlge National
Foundation Program and in
assorted community projects. One
was donating a flag pole to the
Calabash Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Ixnlge members presently meet in
temporary facilities, but are searching
for a more permanent location.
All members are to meet 2 D.m.
Saturday at the old Dixie Restaurant

The ladies auxiliary to the lodge

Beach Senior Citizens Club 7 p.m.

Meets April 10
The Ladies Auxiliary of Calabash
Lodge No. 2679 of the Benevolent and
Protective Order of the Elk meets
Wednesday, April 10, at 8 p.m. at the
club in Calabash.
All wives of Elk members are invited
to attend the meeting.
lAlso, the Auxiliary is sponsoring a
yard and bake sale Saturday, April
20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the club.
The Elks will sell hot dogs and soft
drinks.

Plans Reunion
A meeting to plan a Shallotte High
School Class of '55 30-year reunion
will be held Sunday, April 14, at 3
p.m. at the Sizzling Sirloin
Steakhouse in Shallotte.
Spokesman Marlene Varnam urged
all class members interested in
helping with the event to attend.
