Vote Prote
ItY MAKJOKIK MKOIVKKN
(July James Clemmons voted a
loud. "No!" on personnel recommendations
presented Monday to the
Brunswick County Board of Education.
Before the vote on a six-page list of
proposed hirings. resignations and
leaves-of absence, handed to board
members by Assistant Superintendent
Steplianna Tewey, Clenunons
said, "We might as well. They're
already in place. But this is after the
fact."
The list in question was an addendum
to a personnel list already
reviewed by board members. The addendum
had not been seen previously
by the board.
Asked later about his negative
vote, he explained. "How can 1 vote
on something I don't know anything
about? We used to discuss these in
executive session."
Superintendent Gene Yarbrough
said the board usually goes over lastminute
personnel lists in executive
session, but. "I thought this was
straightforward and that we could do
it in open session. Since it's a pro?

Personnel recommendations are
mailed to board members a week
before the meeting, Mrs. Tewey said,
but there are always last minute additions.
