Page 12-A?'THE BRUNSWICK BUM* TOMMY HARRELSON hags one of h Ash. al (ho Brunswick County rally Mi Head Start C Reduced-Cos Children enrolled at Head Start centers in Brunswick County will be provided meals at free or reduced charges this year. The child care food program, like Head Start, is sponsored by Sencland Community Action. Students can enroll at three locations in Brunswick County: Cedar drove Head Start in Supply, Northwest Head Start in Iceland and Long wood Head Start at I.ongwood. Marine Resourc Become N.C. A On Sept 10 the three N.C. Marine Resources Centers celebrated their 20th anniversary with a name change to N.C. Aquariums. The centers, at Fort Fisher, Roanoke Island and Pine Knoll Shores, have featured aquariums in prominent places. The most impressive is the 20.000-gal. shark tank at Ft. Fisher, the largest single aquarium in the state. The name change Is an effort to reflect more accurately the function of the facilities and improve their name recognition, according to Dr. neal Conoley, director of the N.C. Office of Marine Affairs, which has jurisdiction over them. Over one million people visited the centers last year alone. During the last scncoi lerm, over 1,000 school groups took part in educational activities at the centers, and nearly 1,000 workshops, lectures, demonstrations and field trips were Senior Adult Day Is Held The Brunswick County Senior Adult Day was held Saturday, with 85 people attending and 14 clubs represented. Those represented were Town Creek, Zion Methodist Church. Shallotte First Baptist Church, Holden Beach, Guys and Dolls EHA, American Association of Retired People <AARP?, Southport chapter, Klah Baptist Church, Brunswick Village Rest Home, Southport Over 55, Calabash AARP, Jennies Branch Baptist Church, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Southport Nutrition Site, and Sliallotte Nutrition Site. Games were led by F.inrna Thomas of Hruaswick County's Parks and Recreation Department. Crafts displayed included stained glass, shell work, woodcraft, arid pineneedle crafts. Dedication ceremonies Sept. 10 marked the ten years of service and name change, with Administration Secretary Grace Hohrer speaking at Ft. Fisher's program. "These centers were designed to promote an awareness and understanding of the state's relationship with the sea.' she said. Town Creek VRS To Fry Chicken Town Creek Volunteer Rescue Squad will serve fried chicken dinners Saturday, Sept. 20. beginning at 11 a.m. A bake sale is also planned.
