The regional fair featured science, math and computer entries from junior high and high school students from throughout the region. Brunswick County entries had previously been entered in both school and county curriculum fairs. First place winners were Terry Nawara of Shallotte Middle School and Frank William of North Brunswick High School, both of whom entered computer projects. There is no state competition in the computer category. Melissa Powell, a sixth grader at uwuhi ui uiiawiuK iviiacue scnooi, will compete in the state science fair with her earth science project, "Evaporation." Saturday it received second place in the Earth Science division for grades 6-8. Also placing in the computer division were Aric Meares, senior, North Brunswick High, second place, computer technology; and Jeff Hilts, senior, North Brunswick High, second place, graphics/games/recreation, grades 9-12. Jean Parker, public information officer for the school system, said the number of county students placing in the regional fair doubled this year, which she attributed to continued efforts by the school system to improve the instructional program.
