The West Brunswick Trojans opened
the prep baseball season last week
with their best start in three years
going 3-for-3 with nonconference
wins over Nakina i twice) and l.oris,
S.C.
The Trojans opened with a 7-0
shutout over Nakina last Tuesday
then edged l.oris 7-4 on Thursday.

picked up its second win over Nakina
5-2 to run its record to a perfect 2-0.
Not included in the three-game
streak was a game against AcmeDelco
Friday that was hailed by rain.
The Trojans led 6-1 in the bottom of
the fourth inning when play was terminated.
The game was scheduled to
be concluded yesterday i Wednesday
i prior to the second scheduled
contest against Acme-Delco.

West Brunswick ran its record to a
perfect 2-0 Monday behind the two-hit
pitching of Tommy Love that paced
the Trojans to a 5-2 win over the host
Indians.
Love went the distance for the Trojans
and struck out six with only
back-to-back hits in the sixth inning
spelling his no-hit bid.
West Brunswick took the early lead
with a pair of runs in the second inning.
Jeff Mintz's double and love's
RBI-single powered the runs and the
Trojans never trailed.
l iie Troians took a 3-0 lead in ihe
top of the third when Dino Daniels
walked and scored on Corey Hankins'
hit.
Nakina scored its first run in the
bottom of the third on two Trojan errors.
three walks issued by Love and
a sacrifice.
West increased its lead to 4-1 in the
fourth on three hits by Eric Hardy.
Mintz and Talbert Williams.
Both teams tallied one final run in
the fifth inning.
Daniels scored 011 Kyle Jones' RBIsingle
after getting a one-out single
and stealing second base.
Nakina scored in the bottom of the
inning on two more Trojan errors and
lxive's hitting of Kevin McKeithan.
David Whaley was the losing pitcher
for Nakina. Guy Faulk and
Patrick Harris had the only hits for
the Indians.

Meanwhile, Daniels belted the
team's first homerun with a solo
blast in the fifth inning. Daniels also
added a first-inning triple and walked
once in the sixth.

Love walked three and was charged
with only two earned runs.
The Trojans trailed 4-2 after two innings
but added single runs in each of
the remaining frames to rally for the
win.
Daniels' triple scored Scottie Babson
for the first West Brunswick run.
Daniels later scored himself to help
build a 2-0 Trojan lead.
Loris also scored once in the first
inning then added three runs in the
second on Richard Norman's double,
David Herring's single and a threebase
Trojan fielding error.
West tied the game 4-4 in the third
inning when Babson scored on a
I .oris throwing error, two stolen
bases and a walk issued to Kyle
Jones.
The Trojans took the lead 5-4 in the
fourth when Jeremy King walked
and then scored on Paul Jones' RBIsingle.
Daniels' fifth-inning homer gave
West a G-t advantage and Jeff Mintz
scored the final Trojan run in the
sixth after a hit and stolen base.
John Thompkins was the losing pitcher
for Loris while Herring and
Paul Stanley had two hits each to
lead the l.ions at the plate.

Winning pitcher Dino Daniels and
reliever Billy Innwn combined for a
three-hit shutout last Tuesday to lead
the Trojans past visiting Nakina 7-0
in the season-opening game for both
teams.
Daniels went six innings ami struck
out 10 while yielding just three hits
and walked one before being relieved
by lnman.
Inman faced three batters in one
inning and struck out two.
Paul Jones and Scottie Babson collected
three hits each to lead the Trojans
at the plate while Corey Hankins
had two hits and three KBIs.
West took a 1-0 lead in the second
inning when Hankins scored after a

West Brunswick opened a 50 lead
in the fifth inning on Hankins' RBIsingle
that scored Eric Hardy.
Hankins later scored on Kyle Jones'
two-out single.
The Trojans added two final runs in
the sixth on Babson's two-run single
that brought home Mintz and Paul
Jones.
Kevin Mceithan. Rhett Rutler and
Jeramie Hughes had the only hits for
Nakina while Jerome Ward, was the
Indians' losing pitcher.

Hoggard. Kristi Wiggins had four
RBIs on a homer and three singles
and Lisa Roberts added four RBIs on
two homers for the Lady Vikings.
Julie O'Shields rounded out the
