A New Hanover County man
received a probationary sentence
last week after he was found guilty of
breaking into a Iceland area home
and injuring a woman.
According to the Brunswick County
Clerk of Court's office, Ricky
Strickland. 34. of Racine Drive.
Wilmington, was tried May 10 in
Brunswick County District Criminal
Court.
Judge William C. Gore Jr. found
Strickland guilty of misdemeanor
breaking and entering, and assault
with a deadly weapon.
The defendant was sentenced to a
one-year prison term, suspended for
two years, with two years of supervised
probation. Also, he was ordered
to pay a $250 fine and court costs, as
well as the victim's medical bills of
up to $1,000 and damage to the victim's
house of up to $100.

Strickland was arrested April 25 by
the Brunswick County Sheriff's
Department in connection with an incident
that occurred April 24 at the

Arrest warrants stated that the
defendant entered the home and
struck Ms. Strickland in the face and
body with a wooden two-by-four. The
woman required stitches and
medical treatment at New Hanover
Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.
Strickland initially was charged
with felonious breaking and entering,
and assault with a deadly weapon.
During last week's trial, Judge Gore
found no probable cause for the
felony breaking and entering count,
but ruled that a misdemeanor breakin
had occurred.
Also during the May 9 through 11
term of Brunswick County District
Criminal Court, Judge Gore heard
the following cases:
