The award was presented May 11 at the District II meeting of the Garden Club of North Carolina Inc. in Jacksonville. Also at the meeting, the club received state awards for its civic beautification work "promoting the planting of crape myrtles and other trees to beautify Brunswick County." Those who attended the meeting in addition to Mclamb included incoming president Marilyn Dowless and members Frances Gravatt and Ann I^aughinghouse. The club's annual social will be held tonight (Thursday) at the home of Tom and Vicki Jones. They offered helpful infomration on how to grow these perennials with ease, and presented slides of various forms and colors available to home gardeners. Day lilies grow well in this area.
